Abstract: A system is disclosed for effecting movement of one or more operating devices such as capper chucks through a predetermined endless path having a straight line reach parallel to a conveyor on which containers or the like may be conveyed, the system including a fixed turret defining the endless path and being adapted to support and guide one or more devices along the endless path and having drive means cooperative with each operative device so as to effect constant speed movement of the devices along the straight line reach and, in a preferred embodiment, also effect rotation of the devices about their longitudinal axes as they traverse the endless guide track.
Abstract: A capper chuck is disclosed for applying a closure cap to a container by conforming an annular skirt on the closure against an external conformation, such as a thread and pilfer ring, on the container. The capper chuck includes a plurality of support arms mounted on a rotatable housing for pivotal movement about pivot axes transverse to the axis of the housing, each support arm having a forming roller rotatably mounted thereon for movement to engage the skirt of the closure upon actuation of the support arms by an axial cam plunger. The forming roller support arms are adapted to accommodate oversize closure caps and containers without damaging the closure caps, containers or forming rollers.
Abstract: A capper chuck is disclosed for applying a closure cap to a container, the capper chuck having retaining jaws which are adapted to receive and support a closure cap therebetween and have cooperation with an internal torque release lever and torsion spring arrangement operative to release the jaws from the closure cap after a predetermined rotational torque is effected between the closure cap and a container.
Abstract: A carriage guidance system is disclosed which employs an endless track defining upper and lower parallel track-ways adapted to receive guide rollers mounted on a carriage for rotation about vertical coplanar axes. The track also defines an intermediate track-way adapted to receive horizontal support rollers mounted on the carriage plate. The track-ways and carriage rollers cooperate in a manner to increase the allowable manufacturing and assembly tolerance range, and facilitate relatively easy removal of the carriage plate from the guide track.
