  • Publication number: 20180296956
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method of separating particulates from an airflow. The apparatus comprises an air inlet for directing an airflow to a fluid conduit. The fluid conduit has an outer wall curvature with a radius decreasing with azimuthal distance around the fluid conduit. The fluid conduit also has one or more openings in the outer wall through which the particulates pass when the airflow accelerates through the fluid conduit. Particulates accumulate in a particulate collector that is fixed to the fluid conduit and around the one or more openings.

  • Publication number: 20170363677
Abstract: A spark detector indicates the presence of a spark by analyzing sound waves generated when an electrical spark is produced from an electrical spark generator located on an igniter rod. The spark detector includes an acoustic sensor that is in communication with the igniter rod to determine the time for the spark sound wave to travel through the igniter rod to the acoustic sensor. If a spark is not detected, the spark detector may output a signal indicating at least one of (i) the spark was not detected, (ii) to replace the electrical spark generator immediately, or (iii) replace the electrical spark generator soon such as at the next scheduled maintenance. Furthermore, the spark detector may be calibrated based on current temperature of the igniter rod based upon time of propagation of a pulse sound wave, generated by a pulse-echo generator, to reflect off an end of the igniter rod.

  • Publication number: 20160061110
Abstract: A low NOX burner in which the amount of air flow to the low NOX (nitrous oxides) burner can be adjusted (e.g., based on determinations related to the TEG air flow to the low NOX burner). A low NOX burner capable of operating in a TEG mode that uses a mixture of fresh air and turbine exhaust gas (TEG) as an oxidizer, and also in a fresh air mode in which fresh air (but not TEG) is used as an oxidizer (e.g., and that may be configured to switch seamlessly between these modes). A method of operating a low NOx burner that that includes using TEG and fresh air as an oxidizer to burn fuel, in a TEG mode and, when conditions dictate, such as when the TEG flow has decreased to a pre-determined level (e.g., zero or close to zero), switching from the TEG mode to a fresh air mode.

  • Patent number: 8794960
Abstract: A low NOx burner for installation on a furnace wall has an elongated tube connected to a combustion air supply, the furnace side end of which mounts a combustion air spinner that is spaced from the furnace wall. A plurality of air ports extend through the wall into the combustion chamber. Downstream ends of the air ports are spaced from the furnace wall as well as from the spinner, and they are configured to bias the discharged air flow towards the spinner. A plurality of first fuel gas spuds with fuel gas discharge orifices arranged about the spinner and discharges fuel gas into the combustion chamber downstream of the spinner. A second fuel gas spud is disposed in pockets between adjacent pairs of air ports which are closed against the furnace wall so that no combustion air flows through the pockets. The third gas spuds are placed inside the air ports.

  • Patent number: 8629313
Abstract: A method of operating a flare assembly is provided. If it is determined that the injection of primary steam into the combustion zone is necessary to achieve smokeless operation, primary steam is injected through a steam injector assembly into the combustion zone. If it is determined that steam is not necessary, an alternative gas is discharged though the steam injector assembly into the combustion zone. In one embodiment, the alternative gas is heated. In another embodiment, if it is determined that steam is necessary, a maximum allowable flow rate of steam is calculated, and the flow rate of steam is modulated to achieve smokeless operation and avoid a flow rate of steam in excess of the maximum allowable flow rate of steam. A flare assembly is also provided.
