  • Publication number: 20130227846
Abstract: A rafter angle square includes a first, ruler side, a second fence side, and a hypotenuse side extending between the ruler and fence sides to form a right triangle. The tool includes a front side and a back side and a number of markings on the front and back sides for carrying out measurements and other operations with the tool. The tool includes a scribe guide arrangement having a slot defining opposing edges. The edges include a number of projections extending toward the opposing edge and defining a number of scribe guide notches between adjacent projections. The scribe guide notches of the opposing edges are aligned with one another and configured to enable a user of the tool to mark a workpiece in a first and second, opposing direction parallel with an edge of the workpiece at the same distance from the edge of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 7770298
Abstract: An end cap feature for a level includes a frame having a gauging surface and a web which extends at an angle relative to the gauging surface. The web includes a recess adjacent to an end of the frame. The web recess opens onto the end of the web and extends inwardly therefrom. An end member includes a web-receiving such as a slot defined between a pair of side members, each of which is formed with an opening. The web recess and the end member openings are in alignment with each other when the end of the web is received within the web-receiving structure. A retainer member is positioned within the web recess when engaged within the opening of the end member, and the retainer member and web recess are configured such that engagement of the retainer member within the web recess maintains the end member in engagement with the web. Engagement of the retainer member within the opening of the end member prevents movement of the end member relative to the web.

  • Patent number: 7509749
Abstract: A molded plastic yet structurally rigid tool, such as a level, with a web extending in a generally undulating configuration. The undulating configuration of the web acts to strengthen and make the level more rigid when compared to a level with a planar web. The undulating configuration of the web is substantially symmetrical about the centerline of the level over its entire length, but may also be arranged in a number of non-planar embodiments.

  • Patent number: 7412774
Abstract: A laser marking device including an oscillating mechanism that enables the laser beams emitted from the device to be emitted in either a constant state or in a pulsed state to enhance the visibility of the laser beam in various lighting conditions. The oscillating mechanism modulates the power supplied by the power source into either a constant state or a pulsed state in order to send the power in that state to the laser generator, which consequently emits a laser beam in either a constant or pulsed state. In bright light conditions in which the beam is not readily visible, the beam can be emitted in a pulsed state to be sensed by a separate detector capable of detecting the pulsed beam from the device. The detector provides an indication to the operator of the position of the beam relative to the detector such that the operator can readily determine the location of the beam.

  • Patent number: 7367129
Abstract: A leveling or plumbing device for indicating a line or a plane on a surface, such as wall or floor. The device includes a light beam generator that emits a light beam exteriorly of a body or housing. Level and/or plumb indicators, such as vials, are mounted to the housing for positioning the device in a predetermined orientation on the surface. The device includes a series of extendible and retractable engagement members, each of which defines an outer end having an adhesive. The adhesive engages the surface to releasably secure the device to the surface. The engagement members are biased inwardly toward a retracted position. The adhesive engagement of the engagement members with the surface maintains the engagement members in the extended position against the inward bias.

  • Patent number: 7172067
Abstract: A level case includes a tubular body having a series of walls that define an internal cavity, and a cap that selectively closes the internal cavity. A series of indentations are formed in the walls, and are configured to receive and engage the corners of a level received within the internal cavity. The internal cavity defines spaces between the level surfaces and the facing surfaces of the walls, to protect the level surfaces in the event the walls of the tubular body are subjected to forces that cause inward deformation of the walls. The cap is configured similarly to the tubular body, including indentations that receive the corners of the level. The cap is engaged over the opening of the tubular body so as to enclose a portion of the level that extends outwardly of the tubular body. The indentations in the tubular body are continuous throughout a majority of the length of the tubular body.

  • Patent number: 7070049
Abstract: A suspension-type packaging arrangement for a product includes an upper engagement section having an opening to receive a hook or the like, a lower product support section, and an intermediate display section located between the upper engagement section and the lower product support section. The product is secured to the product support section, and is exposed to allow the user to handle the product so as to evaluate and test the product prior to purchase. The upper engagement section and the lower product support section are configured so that the center of gravity of the product is generally in line with the location at which the hook engages the upper engagement section, so that the packaging arrangement and the product hang in a generally vertical orientation for display. The intermediate display section is defined by an outwardly facing wall, and may be configured to releasably secure a display card containing product information that is visible to the potential purchaser.

  • Patent number: 7024781
Abstract: A vial illumination feature for a tool, such as a level, is configured so as to emit light toward a vial when the tool is used in a darkened environment. The vial extends across an opening or a space defined by the tool, and one or more vial retainer members engage the ends of the vial to maintain the vial in position within the opening or space. The vial illumination feature is carried out by forming the one or more vial retaining members of a luminescent material. The luminescence of the one or more vial retaining members functions to absorb light when the tool is exposed to light, and to emit light toward the surfaces of the vial when the tool is in a darkened environment, to illuminate the vial and to enable the bubble of the vial to easily be viewed.

  • Publication number: 20020056203
Abstract: A liquid-containing member is insert molded into a body. The liquid-containing member may be in the form of a level vial, which can be insert molded in a mold cavity having a shape corresponding to a vial retainer or corresponding to a level. The mold cavity is defined by a pair of mold sections which are configured to form an opening in the body, and the level vial is positioned to extend across the areas of the mold sections defining the opening. The ends of the level vial extend into an area of the mold cavity adapted to receive moldable material, such that injection of moldable material into the mold cavity surrounds and encapsulates the ends of the level vial. The vial is thus mounted to the body by means of the moldable material surrounding and encapsulating the ends of the vial, to securely engage the vial with the body and to eliminate a previously-required assembly step of mounting a vial to a body such as a vial retainer or a level.
