    Abstract: In a device with an elongate housing for examining the gums of a patient, with the housing having a connecting area for connecting a replaceable, movable exploratory tip and with mechanical and/or electronic detection elements provided in the housing for detecting and converting the movements of the exploratory tip. The invention proposes that the detection elements be designed to be liquid-tight and/or liquid-resistant, and surrounded by a potting compound inside the housing.
