Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for transpedicular vertebral attachment comprising the steps of drilling a pedicle with a drill as for example a twist drill in order to form a hole in the pedicle; removing the drill from the hole thus formed in the pedicle; screwing a plug into the hole in the pedicle thus formed by the twist drill; whereby an anchorage of the plug is established in the pedicle.

Abstract: In transpedicular vertebral attachment systems and a device for the practice thereof a screw is provided. The screw is much shorter than a traditional screw and engages a plug of silastic or any other polymer having equivalent mechanical properties and biocompatibility, such as a metal or metal alloy. The plug is inserted in the pedicle, extending only slightly beyond the length thereof. The system is applicable to osteoporotic patients in whom the density of the bone tissue of the vertebral body is much lower, and in general in all lesions of the backbone in which instrumented vertebral fusion is indicated.

Abstract: A system for setting cervical vertebrae from behind includes hooks (10) and plates (12) used together with a number of jointed segments or cylinders (1) crossed longitudinally and vertically by a web (4) housing a connecting wire (8) that can be tightened with a tightening device, and locked by a screw (7) lying crosswise to each segment (1). The system can be used to join all the required levels. Neither the point of insertion of the screws nor the position of the hooks are predetermined. This system can be used after laminectomy.
