  • Publication number: 20140233193
Abstract: A field replaceable power supply cartridge is provided for coupling with a socket. The cartridge has a latch mechanism that can be actuated by the user to couple the cartridge to the socket, such that latches of the cartridge releasably engage recessed portions in the socket. The cartridge has a key feature that corresponds to a key feature on the socket, allowing the cartridge to be coupled to the socket in only one orientation, thereby preventing the incorrect electrical connection between the cartridge and the socket. The cartridge can have a multi-pin electrical connector for coupling to a corresponding connector on the socket. The socket can be a relatively short socket, where the electrical wires are bottom fed, or can be a relatively tall socket, where the electrical wires are side fed via one or more openings in the body of the socket.

  • Patent number: 8783938
Abstract: A lighting assembly includes a heat dissipating member, a socket and an LED light module removably coupleable to the socket. The socket has one or more electrical contact elements accessed via one or more slots in the socket such that they are protected from inadvertent human contact. The LED light module includes an LED lighting element and one or more electrical contact members that can extend into the one or more slots to releasably contact the one or more electrical contact elements, and establish an operative electrical connection, when the LED light module is coupled to the socket. One or more resilient members of the LED light module or socket gradually compress as the LED light module is axially inserted at least partially into the socket and then rotated relative to the socket such that the one or more electrical contact members move along the one or more slots into contact with the one or more electrical contact elements of the socket.

  • Publication number: 20120268894
Abstract: A socket and heat sink unit for use with a removable LED light module includes separate socket and heat sink portions that are coupleable to each other. The socket can releasably couple to a removable LED light module. The heat sink can couple to the socket and extends about a central axis. The heat sink includes a plurality of fin members that extend outward from a central core portion. At least two adjacent fin members define a channel therebetween at the junction of the fin members to the central core portion. The channel can receive a fastener therein to couple the socket to the heat sink. An extrusion process can be used to manufacture the heat sink portion, and to form one or more fastener holes in the heat sink portion sized to receive one or more fasteners to fasten the heat sink portion to the socket portion.
