Patent number: 4569245Abstract: A drop-in type shifter for an automotive transmission is provided that is spring biased with relatively flat washer-like springs. The shifter comprises an elongate shift stick having an upper end and a lower end. The upper end is manually actuable and the lower end is adapted for insertion in an automotive transmission for changing the drive ratio of the transmission when the shift stick is pivoted. A base is provided for mounting the shifter on the transmission and a spherical socket is disposed on the base. A spherical ball is disposed on the shift stick between the upper and lower ends of the shift stick and the ball is received in the spherical socket for pivotally mounting the shift stick on the base. A channel is provided which bisects the socket. The ball is provided with a rocking shaft having first and second ends disposed on adjacent sides of the ball and extending into the channel for stabilizing the pivotable shift stick for pivotable movement about first and second orthogonal axes.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1983Date of Patent: February 11, 1986Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventors: Earl C. Patent number: 4515032Abstract: A drop-in shifter for a manual transmission includes an elongated base, a shift stick mounted on the base for multi-axis movement and a depending gear actuating lever. An elongated rail is supported on the base by spaced bearings for rotational and lateral shifting movement. The shift stick has a lower end pivoted to the rail. The gear actuating lever is fixed to the rail at a point spaced from the shift stick. The lever extends through the base which is bolted to the transmission. Multi-axis movement of the shift stick is translated into multi-axis movement of the gear actuating lever through the bearings and rail.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: May 7, 1985Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Bruce E. Patent number: 4409848Abstract: A fluid flow meter having an improved impulse generator for generating an electric signal to actuate a remote reader in response to a fixed volume of flow through the meter. A direct current motor having an armature having at least three poles or coils is used as the impulse generator. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the meter is modularly packaged in a cup-shaped housing with the various components layered one upon the other.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Paul D. Patent number: 4343202Abstract: A pull-type actuator for an automotive transmission shifter is disclosed comprising a stationary base adapted to be mounted in an automotive vehicle. One or more gates are disposed in the base. A pivotable upstanding shift lever extends from the base and detent means is mounted for reciprocal movement in the base adjacent the lower end of the shift lever. The detent means must be aligned with a gate to allow entry into a locked out gear position. A manually actuable pull is disposed on the upper end of the shift lever and a flexible actuator link extends from the detent means to the pull. The actuator link is tensioned between the detent and the pull by a rack of teeth disposed on the upper end of the actuator link and a tooth engaging means disposed on the pull for engaging the teeth on the actuator link in a one way ratchet-like fashion.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1980Date of Patent: August 10, 1982Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Charles Osborn

Patent number: 4328712Abstract: A gimbal-type automotive transmission shifter and gear lockout is provided comprising a gear selecting shift lever; a pivotable shift lever carrier; and a stationary base for mounting the transmission shifter in an automotive vehicle. The shift lever and shift lever carrier are pivotable about first and second generally orthogonal axes, respectively. The shift lever is pivotable relative to the carrier about the first axis and the carrier is pivotable relative to the base about a second axis. Appropriate linkage is provided for translating these pivotable movements to the transmission for selecting a desired transmission drive ratio. A gear lockout is provided by a first gate disposed on the base. A detent is mounted for reciprocal movement with respect to the base. Biasing means is provided for biasing the detent into engagement with the base. The biasing means thereby prevents entry of the detent into the first gate and thus provides a positive first lockout for at least one gear position.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1980Date of Patent: May 11, 1982Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Charles Osborn

Patent number: 4304112Abstract: An automotive transmission shifter and park lock is disclosed which includes a base for mounting the shifter in an automotive vehicle. A shift lever is pivotable with respect to the base and a park lock hook is pivotally mounted on the shift lever. The base includes means for engaging the park lock hook comprising an aperture disposed in the base. The park lock hook is normally spring biased upwardly out of engagement with the aperture disposed on the base. Means for connecting the lock hook to an ignition switch locked park lock cable is provided whereby once the park lock cable is locked stationary by the ignition switch, the park lock hook is automatically pivoted into engagement with the aperture in the base upon an attempt to pivot the shift lever out of the park position.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1979Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Charles Osborn

Patent number: 4282768Abstract: In an automotive transmission shifter of the type mounted directly on the side of an automotive transmission and having a shift stick extending into the vehicle passenger compartment, vibration isolation means disposed between the transmission and the shifter. The shifter includes a plurality of mounting posts formed from the ends of side plate clamping bolts and a carrier pivot shaft bolt. A plurality of elastomer grommets are disposed in an apertured mounting plate adapted to be rigidly mounted to the side of the transmission. The mounting posts are then inserted in the elastomer grommets to suspend the shifter from the side of the transmission.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1979Date of Patent: August 11, 1981Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Charles Osborn

Patent number: 4194341Abstract: This specification discloses a manually operated portion packaging apparatus including an operating handle initiating and actuating each step in a sequence of steps to complete packaging of a portion of a substance such as food. A hand operated handle advances a conveyor carrying containers, causes a film dispenser to dispense sufficient amount of heat sealable film, causes a heated platen to press on a container covered by the film, and actuates a food dispenser and container dispenser. Manually powering such a machine reduces the cost in comparison to electrical powering yet substantially increases efficiency in comparison to manual execution of each step in the portion packaging sequence.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1977Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventors: Lee S. Patent number: 3994184Abstract: A simplified shifting assembly in which a shifting stick is moved in a straight line to control gear range and differential operation in the transfer case of a four wheel drive vehicle. A gear lever arm is shiftable between "high", "neutral" and "low" gear positions while a differential lever arm is shiftable from a first to a second position to lock the differential mechanisms of the transfer case. Special cam slots and cam follower members on the lever arms and on an actuating member movable with the shifting stick effect movement of the differential lever arm by disengaging from the gear lever arm and engaging the differential lever arm.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1975Date of Patent: November 30, 1976Assignee: JSJ CorporationInventor: Charles H.
