Abstract: A technique is provided for properly processing structured data. Upon an instruction reception unit 3412 of a document distribution processing apparatus 20A receiving an instruction to archive multiple document files or multiple fragments, an archive file creating unit 3414 creates an archive file that stores the information necessary for acquiring the document files or the fragments, examples of which include URLs. On the other hand, upon an archive acquisition unit of a document distribution destination processing apparatus 20B acquiring the archive file, an archive file expanding unit 3434 expands the archive file, and reads out a definition file 3320 that provides a function of integrating the document files or the fragments. Furthermore, the archive file expanding unit 3434 acquires the document files or the fragments based upon the information stored in the archive file.

Abstract: An undo technique with improved ease-of-use is provided. A document processing apparatus executes editing, printing, and storage for a document file. An undo manager records the operation history of the document processing apparatus in an undo stack. The undo manager compresses the operation history stored in the undo stack according to a predetermined condition at a predetermined timing, e.g., at the time of storing the document or the like. For example, in a case that there are multiple branching operation histories, the undo manager compresses a part of the operation history between the state at which the branching occurred and the state at which the branch ends, with the branching start state and the branching end state maintained without being compressed.

Abstract: A technique is provided for adding an annotation to a document described in a markup language. Upon acquisition of a document described in a markup language from another apparatus via a network, a document processing apparatus 100 displays the document content. In a case of reception of an instruction from a user to add an annotation to the document, the document processing apparatus 100 associates a definition file with the document. The definition file specifies a processing method for processing elements that provide a function of adding an annotation to the document. The document processing apparatus 100 then stores the annotation in the definition file according to the instruction from the user.

Abstract: User operations are simplified when inserting data into a document described in a markup language. A data acquisition unit 308 receives data which is to be inserted into a document via a user interface unit 302. A translation candidate acquisition unit 310 translates the data thus received based upon dictionaries stored in a dictionary storage unit 306. Furthermore, each of the data sets thus translated are displayed on a screen. A property acquisition unit 314 receives the processing target vocabulary or the processing target schema at the position in a processing target document at which the data is to be inserted. A translation unit 312 receives an instruction from the user to select one from among the multiple kinds of data sets displayed on the screen. Furthermore, determination is made whether or not the data set selected by the user can be inserted into the processing target document according to the processing target vocabulary or the processing target schema.

Abstract: An information processing method and apparatus for enabling more prompt sign-up. A network management server at step S62 received am equipment serial number from an information processing apparatus and, at step s63, references a database to retrieve a received equipment serial number. If the equipment serial number has not been found, the program moves to step S16 where a command for initiating manual setting is sent to an information processing apparatus. If the equipment serial number has been found, the program moves to step S81 to verify whether or not the admittance made or admittance not as yet made, recorded in the database in association with the equipment serial number received is admittance made. If the verified result indicates admittance not as yet made, the program moves to step S82 where the network management server sends an automatic setting initiating command to the information processing apparatus.

Abstract: An undo technique with improved ease-of-use is provided. An undo manager displays an undo UI screen in a lower portion of a screen displayed by a document processing apparatus. A time axis is displayed on the undo UI screen. Furthermore, an operation history is displayed along the time axis. A slider is displayed on the time axis. Upon a user moving the slider in the horizontal direction via a mouse, the operation process is displayed on the screen according to the slider operation in a manner like that of the playback of a moving image.

A document display unit 210 displays the contents of the document file on a screen. An encryption region specifying unit 214 allows a document editor to input data that specifies the region of the encryption target data in the document file displayed on the screen. A public key storage unit 242 stores public key data that corresponds to private key data held by document checkers. A checker level setting unit 216 allows the document editor to input data that specifies the access level for the encryption target data. A key search unit 232 detects the public key data that corresponds to the private key data of the document checker thus specified. An encryption processing unit 234 encrypts the encryption target data according to the public key encryption method using the public key data thus detected.

Abstract: A technique is provided for properly handling the modification of a definition file. Let us consider a case in which a document processing apparatus 100 opens an XML document. In a case that there is an available definition file associated with the document, the XML document is processed using the definition file. Before opening the XML document, the document processing apparatus 100 makes a comparison between the version of the definition file used for creating the document and the version of the definition file thus acquired in this step. In a case that there is a difference in the versions, the document processing apparatus 100 notifies the user to that effect. In this case, the document may be translated to a form that is compatible with the definition file thus acquired in this step.

Abstract: A technique is provided for properly handling the modification of a definition file. Let us consider a case in which a user modifies a definition file using a definition file editing function provided by a definition file creating unit 86. In this case, the definition file creating unit 86 inquires of the user whether or not a logic is to be inserted, which allows an XML document created using an old version of a definition file to be translated into a format that is compatible with a new version of a definition file. In a case of reception of an instruction from the user to insert such a logic, the translation logic described in XSLT is inserted into the definition file. In a case that an XML document created using the old version of the definition file is opened using the definition file including the translation logic, the translation logic is executed, thereby automatically translating the XML document to an XML document that is compatible with the new version of the definition file.

Abstract: A technique is provided, which supports a user in creating a new vocabulary. Upon an issue request reception unit 3420 receiving a request from a user to issue a namespace URI for a new vocabulary, a namespace URI issue unit 3422 issues a unique namespace URI by appending the user ID or the like to the domain name managed by the namespace URI issue unit 3422 itself. A register unit 3424 notifies the user of the namespace URI issued by the namespace URI issue unit 3422, and registers the namespace URI with a VCD database 3430. Also, in a case that the user who has created a definition file has permitted disclosure of the definition file to other users, the register unit 3424 acquires the definition file from the user, and stores the definition file at a location associated with the namespace URI in a VCD information holding unit 3432.

Upon acquisition of a document described in a markup language, a document processing apparatus 100 detects an element which is included in the document, and which has been defined so as to indicate the start position and the end position of the annotation. The document processing apparatus 100 displays the region from the start position up to the end position in a format that differs from the format in which other elements are displayed. A null element which includes no element value may be employed as such an element that indicates the start position and the end position for adding an annotation. Also, the element may store the information in the form of an attribute value which provides the correspondence between the element that indicates the start position and the element that indicates the end position.

Abstract: The present invention allows the user to insert data into a document described in a markup language in a simple manner. A data acquisition unit 308 receives an instruction to select a part of a processing target document. A property acquisition unit 314 receives information with respect to the tag structure included in the document. A tag creating unit 330 creates at least one tag, which is to be added to the part of the processing target document thus selected by the data acquisition unit 308, based upon the tag structure information received by the property acquisition unit 314. The tag adding unit 332 creates several duplicates of the selected part of the processing target document according to the number of tag combinations created by the tag creating unit 330. Furthermore, the tag adding unit 332 adds each of the multiple kinds of tag combinations to the respective duplicate of the selected part of the document thus created.

A definition attribute obtaining unit, control attribute obtaining unit and stress obtaining unit obtain parameter names usable for calculating a strength value and stress value, based on the definition attribute name. The input reception unit further receives input of parameter values of the parameter names. A strength calculation unit calculates a strength value of the product to be designed in accordance with a predetermined calculation procedure using the parameter value. The stress calculation unit calculates a value of stress applied to the product to be designed in accordance with a predetermined calculation procedure using the parameter value. The comparison report unit compares the strength value and the stress value, and reports report information associated with those values in a case where the comparison result satisfies a predetermined condition.

Abstract: Disclosed is a computer-assisted method for finding duplicate or near-duplicate documents or text spans within a document collection by using high-discriminability text fragments. Distinctive features of the documents or text spans are identified. For each pair of documents or text spans with at least one distinctive feature in common, the distinctive features of each document or text span are compared to determine whether the pair is duplicates or near-duplicates. An apparatus for performing this computer-assisted method is also disclosed.

Abstract: Prepare a server comprising an information provider, a login processor, a user storage unit, a mail sender, and the like, on the internet. The information provider provides information while improving contents of incentive (prize or the like) as increase of the number of terminals which have logged in via the internet. The login processor refers to the user storage unit. If the terminal being login is a new corner, the login processor notifies the information provider of it. The information provider counts the number of the terminals which are logging in based on the notification. The mail sender sends mails for promoting usage of new information (promotional mail) to users who have already utilized the similar service. The mail sender also sends the promotional mails to persons who have introduced by the members of the service.
