  • Patent number: 11156348
Abstract: A hazardous location light source module includes a metal base carrier having a light-module support surface on its upper side and a mounting stem on its lower side. The light-module support surface supports a light-module substrate mounting one or more light-emitting devices. The mounting stem is configured for mounting the light source module to a modular hazardous location light source assembly. A wiring port extending through the mounting stem to the base carrier upper side receives electrical wiring that connects electrically to the light-emitting device(s). A main-lens support surface on the base carrier upper side supports a light-transmitting main lens that comprises chemically strengthened glass and has a maximum dimension to maximum thickness ratio of not less than approximately 40:1. The main lens is permanently secured to the base carrier by virtue of a base carrier periphery being deformed into a lip that folds over to capture the main lens.

  • Patent number: 5117345
Abstract: A portable electric lamp of explosion-proof construction including an elongated hand grip, an elongated flourescent bulb having a U-shaped light-generating portion supported at one end of the hand grip and a transparent tube positioned about the light-generating portion of the bulb utilizes an elongated tubular protector element positioned about the transparent tube and which cooperates with the hand grip to maintain the transparent tube in position about the light-generating portion of the bulb. The lamp further includes a power cord routed through the end of the hand grip opposite the light-generating portion and the lamp includes an amount of magnesite base cement positioned in the hand grip and interposed between the light-generating portion and a section of the power cord entering the hand grip. The lamp further includes a ballast assembly having a ballast interconnected in the power cord at a location remote of the hand grip and wherein the ballast is encased in magnesite base cement.

  • Patent number: 4156893
Abstract: A portable electric lamp comprising a tubular transparent housing, a fluorescent lamp in the housing, an arrangement of sockets and starter connected in a circuit for supplying electric current to the lamp, and a removable elongated reflector element in the housing to which the lamp and current supplying arrangement are fixed for removal as a unit from the housing. The housing is closed at one end by a cap element and has a hand grip element adjacent the other end which has an end closure, and the cap and hand grip are of aluminum alloy or like material having relatively high thermal conductivity. The cap and hand grip are held in place by a plurality of tension rods spaced circumferentially and outwardly around the housing. Impact-absorbing protector rings are provided on the end cap and hand grip and also on the tension rod assembly. The lamp ballast is connected in the electric power supply line in spaced relation to the lamp housing.
