Each decorative link comprises alphanumeric character having one or more outline members which becomes part of the chain by connection from at least one connecting link. The connecting link can easily pass through an open section of the outline member to allow rotation and sliding movement in at least two different directions so that the alphanumeric character can provide different appearances when the jewelry chain is worn. One additional outline member or a portion of an open section of an outline member can include one or more gemstones provided upon a mounting structure therein. The chain can form or be incorporated in necklaces, bracelets or earrings.
