  • Patent number: 6536786
Abstract: A stackable, vehicle-shaped, pushcart designed for transporting small children and cargo that can be stacked with a plurality of other pushcarts in a small confined space. The pushcart includes a lightweight frame assembly, an upward extending handle assembly, and a pivoting vehicle-shaped body. The vehicle-shaped body is disposed horizontally over the frame assembly and pivots upward on its rear section around a support member. The frame assembly is designed to be horizontally stacked with longitudinally aligned adjacent pushcarts when the body is disposed vertically. The frame assembly includes two front caster wheels and two rear large diameter wheels. The vehicle-shaped body includes a fully extending floor and has a unique outer shape thereby enabling the body to be vertically aligned so that the pushcart can be slid together and horizontally stacked in a compact manner with other similar pushcarts.

  • Patent number: 5591115
Abstract: A system and method of preventing groundwater contamination by a plume of liquid born toxic contaminants that includes establishing a dry barrier between a plume of liquid contaminants and the water table to immobilize the toxic contaminants. The dry barrier is formed by transporting dry gas into the barrier region, such as with injector wells, and then removing it and any moisture it has absorbed, such as with extraction wells to create a layer or bowl shaped structure that is so dry that liquid borne contaminants cannot pass therethrough. By maintaining the barrier, the contaminants form an immobile crust above the barrier which assists in prevention of liquid transport of contaminants into the groundwater. The system is particularly effective when radioactive contaminants are involved because the contaminants can remain fixed and undisturbed underground.

  • Patent number: 4946006
Abstract: This disclosure relates to an elevator system for use in a multi-story building, the building having a vertical space formed therein. The elevator system comprises a stationary framework adapted to be mounted in the space, the framework comprising frame members dividing the vertical space into a plurality of angularly spaced sectors. At least one elevator cage is mounted each of the sectors. At least one turntable is rotatably mounted in the space adjacent the stationary framework, the turntable being located to receive a cage from the stationary framework and rotate the cage from one of the sectors to another of the sectors. A power drive on the frame members, the turntable and on each cage is provided for moving each cage in the vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 4919002
Abstract: A stepless speed change apparatus includes first and second parallel shafts, each carrying a plurality of discs disposed in succession along the shaft, the discs on the first shaft have progressively increasing diameters along one axial direction and the discs on the second shaft have progressively decreasing diameters in that direction, an intermediate shaft is disposed at an angle to a plane containing the axes of the first and second shafts, the intermediate shaft carries intermediate discs each of which is aligned radially with one of the discs on the first shaft and one of the discs on the second shaft, the intermediate shaft can be shifted in a direction perpendicular to the plane containing the axes of the first and second shafts so that as the intermediate shaft is moved the intermediate discs are, in turn, brought into engagement with respective pairs of discs on the first and second shafts at peripheral portions of the discs.
