Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for an oil filter-leak pressure-test station. The oil filter-leak pressure-test station comprises an air pump, a pressure gauge, a vent valve, an overflow reservoir, and a manifold configured to receive an oil filter. The oil filter-leak pressure-test station is configured to apply a desired internal air pressure to an oil filter for observing the oil filter assembly for any potential leaks, such as along a seal ring, rolled seam or a nut-end. The oil filter-leak pressure-test station is also configured to be mounted in a vise or similar mechanical attachment for observation to determine the extent or existence of any leak in the oil filter. The oil filter-leak pressure-test station may also be submerged in water using a submersion reservoir, so as to determine the existence and location of any leaks.

  • Publication number: 20190128763
Abstract: An apparatus and a system is provided that may be utilized to determine oil migration and oil displacement from a pre-oiled air filter. The present invention may also be utilized to determine if oil is displaced from the air filter onto a portion of the apparatus for visualization to a user. The present invention utilizes a demonstration apparatus having a system for forcing air through the oil subjected air filter thereby attempting to force displacement of the oil from the air filter. The apparatus utilizes a blowing means whereby the oil infused air filter is subject to higher than normal air flow and whereby the apparatus has a deflection portion whereby if oil is displaced from the air filter, it is deflected onto the deflection portion where it would be physically viewable to an observer present in the vicinity of the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20190120100
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for a crankcase breather vent assembly to direct blow-by gases out of an engine crankcase. A vent base comprising a generally cylindrical vessel communicates received blow-by gases into an interior cavity of a breather vent that comprises a filter medium. Baffles disposed within an interior cavity of the vent base capture oil carried along with the blow-by gases. The captured oil is directed to an oil sump of the engine by way of a suitable hose. A bonnet fastenably receives the breather vent and is configured to reduce a buildup of oil residue on nearby engine components. An outer profile of the breather vent is tapered along a longitudinal dimension of the filter medium to facilitate unrestricted air flow through the filter medium when the bonnet is installed onto the breather vent.

  • Patent number: 10072620
Abstract: An apparatus and a system is provided that may be utilized to determine air flow through an air filter and/or a plurality of air filters. The present invention utilizes a demonstration apparatus to illustrate the differences in air flow and air restriction between a plurality of different air filters and filtration media. The apparatus and system utilizes a common plenum which subjects the plurality of air filters to the same differential pressure. The air flows through a first side of the air filter and is measured on the second side of the air filter by utilizing a wind meter or similar device to gauge the amount of air flow velocity of the second side of the filter. Additionally, the apparatus and system utilizes a display means to illustrate the differing air velocity through the second side of the air filter.

  • Publication number: 20180171948
Abstract: A combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap is provided for absorbing evaporative hydrocarbon emissions from an air intake duct of an internal combustion engine. The combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap comprises a duct that supports a hydrocarbon absorbing sheet in an unfolded configuration within a housing. The duct communicates an airstream from an air filter to the air intake duct during operation of the internal combustion engine. An opening in the housing receives a mass airflow sensor into the duct, such that the mass airflow sensor is disposed within the airstream. Guide vanes extending across the duct reduce air turbulence within the airstream passing by the mass airflow sensor. Ports disposed along the duct allow the evaporative hydrocarbon emissions to be drawn into the interior and arrested by the hydrocarbon absorbing sheet when the internal combustion engine is not operating.

  • Publication number: 20180165992
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for a filter airflow demonstrator to provide a visual representation of resistance to air flow through an air filter. The airflow demonstrator comprises a housing that includes an opening configured to receive the air filter. An edge portion of the opening receives a perimeter of the air filter, such that a filter medium of the air filter is disposed over the opening. An electric fan within an interior of the housing draws the air flow through the filter medium into the housing. A transparent stand pipe is disposed atop the housing, such that a lumen of the stand pipe transports the air flow from the interior to an exterior of the housing. A ball within the central lumen travels upwards therein under the action of the air flow to provide an indication of resistance to the air flow through the air filter.
