    Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for dilating tissue for placement of a pedicle screw without the use of guide wires. The tissue dilation system includes, generally, a stylet and trocar which are used for the initial placement of the tissue dilation system. A second dilator is passed over the first. A second dilator is passed over the first dilator, and further includes a serrated edge for engaging with a target surface. The second dilator may be secured to the target surface by the serrated edge alone, or may additional be secured using one or more temporary fixation pins, which operably couple to the second dilator.

    Abstract: A fixation assembly includes an anchor, a cam, and a shaft. The anchor defines a longitudinal axis and includes a spine that extends along the longitudinal axis. The spine has a first projection and a second projection that extend from the spine in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis. The anchor defines a slot between the first and second projections. The cam is disposed with the slot and is positioned to rotate about the longitudinal axis between first and second positions to enable the first and second projections and the cam to secure the anchor to osseous tissue. The shaft is rotatably disposed within the anchor and positioned to rotate the cam between the first and second positions. In the first position, the cam is aligned with the first and second projections, and in the second position, the cam is misaligned with the first and second projections.

    Abstract: A compressor/distractor system for operating on a spine is disclosed. The system includes two rod reducers which each advance a spinal rod into the shoulder portion of a pedicle screw. The outer member also includes a through slot which receives the proximal end of each of the pair of gripping members which may limit the longitudinal translation of the outer member with respect to the inner member. The compressor/distractor system may include a compressor/distractor device which has a compressing, a distracting, and a neutral configuration. A method for using the minimally invasive rod reducers with the compressor/distractor system to secure at least two pedicle screws in desired positions on a spinal rod is also disclosed.
