  • Patent number: 4590782
Abstract: A bevel gear is made by means of a die, a punch, and two concentrical counterpunches, one having a particularly contoured extension. A cylindrical blank, having a diameter not larger than the smallest bevel gear root circle, is inserted in the die; a portion is held by one counterpunch but reverse-extruded in part into the gap between that counterpunch and the advancing punch. A portion of the blank inserted into the interior of the die flows concurrently radially into the small-diameter portion of the die cavity. Subsequently, the reverse-extruded, tubular portion is forced back in parts by the second counterpunch, acting in the gap, to fill the large-diameter portion of the cavity. A tubular shaft extension may remain on the gear.

  • Patent number: 4531991
Abstract: A tube is thermally insulated by helically wrapping a water-repelling spacer around the tube; longitudinally folding a paper ribbon carrying a separating medium around and onto the helical spacer; injecting a foaming material into the tube as it is being formed, and permitting the material to foam inside the folded ribbon; and further permitting the foam to cure and set. Subsequently, the ribbon is peeled off the foam and, preferably, a metal or metalized foil is wrapped around the exposed foam, which is followed by the extrusion of a thermoplastic, synthetic envelope onto the foam.

  • Patent number: 4413768
Abstract: A copper blank is provided with bores, and copper plugs are used to obtain blind bores. The plugs are connected to the blank in a variety of ways and are either placed centrally or at the bore ends; in the latter case, two such elements are interconnected back-to-back, possibly under inclusion of a solid center. In the former case, the plugs are soldered or brazed, preferably during annealing. In either case, a hollow drawing for sizing completes to process.

  • Patent number: 4412222
Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual polarized feed by which two linea polarized waves can be reliably separated. The two waves are conducted separately over high frequency coaxial cables, one of which extends axially and the other radially into the polarizer. Rotation of the planes of polarization is thus unnecessary and the two cables have a minimum influence on the illumination (irradiation) of the reflector.

  • Patent number: 4396656
Abstract: A cable splice, tube joint, or the like, is covered by a fitting constructed as a split hose provided along one edge with a rail made of metal or a strong synthetic; a similar rail element or an integral fastening element is provided on the other edge and secured to the first rail by welding, adhesive bonding, or soldering in order to obtain a joint which resists tension and compression. The hose has been laterally slipped onto and over the cable splice or tube joint and, after the split joint has been sealed (or concurrently therewith), the hose is heat-shrunk. Various rail configurations are shown; a method of making the hose is explained.

  • Patent number: 4393566
Abstract: Several lengths of tubing are interconnected either in advance by welding or brazing, or on-line by hollow plugs, and fed through an annealing furnace, a jacketing station, and a cutter, whereby flushing gas such as air, oxygen-enriched air, or an inert gas are sucked through the respective trailing end. The on-line, end-to-end connection can also be additionally used for tubings as prepared in advance and permits continuous processing, particularly combining process annealing with removal of oil residues.

  • Patent number: 4369911
Abstract: A gas-tight connection is achieved by fusion bonding a flanged end portion of a thin walled, corrugated metallic tube onto a flanged interior surface of a metallic sleeve whose interior surface includes helical threads that correspond to the helical corrugations on the outer surface of the metallic tube. The method disclosed comprises screwing the sleeve onto the tube to a position and orientation whereat the flanged interior surface of the sleeve faces, but is longitudinally separated from, the end portion of the tube to which it is to be bonded. The end portion of the tube is then decorrugated and expanded; a clamping tool is coaxially positioned about such end portion of the tube, a forming mandrel is axially positioned within such end portion, and the clamping tool is tightly closed so as to flange such end portion in a manner to parallel the flanged interior surface of the sleeve.
