  • Patent number: 5485998
Abstract: A golf club head having a high strength and a larger sweet area, which is provided by using light metal such as titanium or titanium alloy. A face crust, an upper crust, a sole and side-peripheral crust are combined together with a neck to form a golf club head. Each crust is formed by forging metal plate of titanium or titanium alloy. The thickness of each crust is adjusted to suitably enlarge a volume of a hollow interior of a golf club head. The hollow interior has a volume of 240 cc or above. According to the invention, the hollow interior of the head is suitably enlarged, ensuring the structural strength of a golf club head so that the distance L between the center of gravity G of the head and the face thereof may be elongated, whereby the sweet area can be enlarged.

  • Patent number: 5460371
Abstract: A metallic golf club wood head comprises a substantially planar face member welded to a container-shaped rear shell member having an open front face. A shaft connecting portion 7a is forged integrally with an upper portion of the face member 11a. A cut-out 14a is formed in an upper face of a front side of a rear shell member 12a for accommodating a lower portion of the shaft connecting portion 7a. As a result of this construction the number of structural members is reduced and the strength of the shaft connecting portion 7a is increased. Furthermore, the loft angle can be adjusted when manufacturing the face member 11a for example by forging. Moreover, since it is sufficient for the shaft connecting portion 7a to be formed at the top of the head only, the front side of the head can be lightened and the "sweet area" increased.

  • Patent number: 5429357
Abstract: There are described a plurality of composite structures of a golf clubhead of a so-called "metal wood" in order to enlarge the sweet area on a ball hitting surface thereof. A method of manufacturing such golf clubheads is also described. A golf clubhead is described having an enlarged hollow portion therein by combining a plurality of crusts formed by press working of metal plates such as titanium, titanium alloy or the like. The thickness of each crusts is capable of being easily adjusted, so that the center of gravity of the golf clubhead can be positioned toward the back, which allows the sweet area to be enlarged.

  • Patent number: 4438931
Abstract: A golf club head comprising two or more thin shell sections, for instance a front shell section and a rear shell section, or a face shell section, a top shell section and a body shell section including a bottom section and a side section, are secured together along their edges to form a one-piece shell having a sealed space. A shaft is also secured together with the shell sections when securing these sections. The sealed space is filled with a filler material such as foamed urethane and rubber.
