  • Patent number: 5382218
Abstract: Predetermined magnet mountable seats are provided on the lower portion of a rotor at equal angular intervals around the central axis of the rotor so that magnets may be mounted in one or more of the magnet mountable seats in an array pattern. Various array patterns may be provided by different combinations of presence and absence of magnets depending on the types of rotors. Arranged on a fixed mount in opposing relation with the array of magnet mountable seats are magnetic sensors along a circle around the central axis at angular intervals equal to or smaller than the angular intervals of the magnet mountable seats. A microprocessor identifies the type of rotor by detecting the array pattern of magnets on the basis of detected outputs from the magnetic sensors.

  • Patent number: 4450391
Abstract: A light emitting element and a photo detector are disposed opposite each other in an outer housing of a centrifuge. When an angle rotor is mounted on a motor shaft, light emitted from the light emitting element is received by the photo detector without being intercepted by the angle rotor and, by the output of the photo detector, a permissible maximum revolving speed of the angle rotor is set high. When a swing rotor is mounted on the motor shaft, the light from the light emitting element is intercepted by the swing rotor, and hence is not received by the photo detector and, by the output of the photo detector, a permissible maximum revolving speed of the swing rotor is set low.

  • Patent number: 4341342
Abstract: A centrifuge is provided with a rotor having a plurality of spaced arms each of which has formed integrally therewith stepped portions projecting towards adjacent arms. Tube rack carrying test tubes are each placed between adjacent arms and a centrifugal force applied to the tube rack is received by abutment of engaging portions of the tube rack with the stepped portions of the arms. A cylindrical wind shield is fixed to the rotor in a manner to surround the rotor and the tube racks. The upper open end of the wind shield is almost closed by sectorial plate portions of the arms and one end face of each tube rack.

  • Patent number: 4314662
Abstract: In a swinging type rotor of a centrifugal machine of the type wherein the rotor is provided with a plurality of equally spaced radial arms and each arm is provided with a pair of trunnion pins for hanging buckets, a through opening extending in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of each arm is formed near an outer end thereof. A holding shaft with its opposite end surfaces inclining away from the longitudinal axis is non-rotatorily inserted into the through opening and a pair of trunnion pins are threaded into the opposite end surfaces to hang buckets. Directions of screw threads of the pair of trunnion pins are opposite so that when the buckets are swung under centrifugal force, threading of the trunnion pins are tightened.

  • Patent number: 4193536
Abstract: In a centrifuge, a rotor is housed in an inner housing and driven by a motor disposed outside thereof. By the rotation of the rotor, gas is blown off to be exhausted from the inner housing through exhaust ports formed therein, and at the same time, gas is drawn into the inner housing through an intake formed in a lid of the inner housing to cool the rotor. A guide is provided around the inner housing, by which the gas exhausted from the exhaust ports is led to one end portion of the motor to flow into the motor through holes made in a motor frame to cool the motor. The gas passing into the motor is discharged from the other end of the motor and then expelled to the outside of an outer casing of the centrifuge.
