  • Patent number: 4787314
Abstract: A device for removing water from the returning portion of the peripheral surface of a meshed roll mounted in a planographic printing press comprises at least one roll for removing water pressed against the said returning portion. The peripheral surface of the roll is made of soft and smoothed material, or brushes project to the centrifugal direction from the peripheral surface of the roll. In one embodiment, a smooth roll of rubber or soft resin presses against the meshed roll, a second smooth roll of metal contacts it, a blade scrapes the second roll and a container receives recovered water from the blade.

  • Patent number: 4773143
Abstract: A roller with a doctor blade has both a harder material portion and a softer material portion provided on the peripheral surface in the same radius from the center of the roller, for achieving complete doctoring. The harder material portion forms a minimum belt-like line in a non-perpendicular direction with respect to the axis of the roller, and preventing wear by doctoring against the softer material portion, and limits the wear of the doctor blade, producing uniform wear without a fear of local wear. The softer material portion has maximum area provided between the turns of the belt-like line and facilitates the formation of cells for measuring and the use of a lipophilic material.

  • Patent number: 4772003
Abstract: An apparatus for stacking signatures or the like includes a guide plate having a predetermined angle of inclination and a conveyor for successively loading signatures onto the upper end of the guide plate from the upper side of the latter. The foremost end of a stack of signatures which are being stacked on the guide plate is supported by a first support member which gradually lowers through a section from the signature loading position to an intermediary position, and is then supported by a second support member through a section from the intermediary position to an unloading position. The rearmost end of the stack of signatures is supported by a third support member through the entire section from the loading position to the unloading position. For this purpose, the first, second and third support members are repeatedly moved along the guide plate in relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4442773
Abstract: In an offset rotary printing press which is equipped with a pair of blanket cylinders which can be shifted between two ultimate positions, in which one is a blanket to blanket type printing mode with four series-contacting cylinders exclusive of an impression cylinder and the other is a satellite type printing mode with five series-contacting cylinders including the impression cylinder, the blanket cylinders can be shifted between the two ultimate positions via two intermediate throw-off positions by three strokes of an actuator with switching by a clutch. The amount of displacement of each of the blanket cylinders between the two ultimate positions exceeds the tooth height of driving gears for the blanket cylinders and the cylinders contacting with said blanket cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4414897
Abstract: In an inking mechanism in a rotary press a doctor blade is provided to prevent the mixing into the ink of bubbles which cause the scattering of an ink mist upon bursting of the bubbles. The doctor blade can swing along the circumferential surface of eccentric sleeves supporting both ends of a fountain roll. A free end portion of the doctor blade contacts with a position just progressed in the rotative direction on that portion of the circumferential surface of a mesh roll to which ink is transferred from the fountain roll. A scraped ink returning plate is provided close to and along the circumferential surface of the fountain roll providing a streamline flow of the scraped ink without turbulent flow. • Patent number: 4332195
Abstract: For imparting end-to-end vibration to an inking roller in a printing press, a worm is fixedly mounted on one of the opposite trunnions of the inking roller. A worm wheel in mesh with the worm is rotatably carried by a reciprocator which is mounted on the trunnion for vibratory motion therewith but which permits its rotation. An eccentric shaft extends eccentrically through the worm wheel for simultaneous rotation therewith about the axis of the latter. A pair of offset extensions projecting eccentrically from the opposite ends of the eccentric shaft are engaged in stationary guideways and thereby constrained to rectilinear reciprocation in a direction normal to the trunnion axis, for transforming the rotation of the worm wheel into the endwise vibration of the inking roller via the reciprocator.

  • Patent number: 4218972
Abstract: In a mechanism for selectively obtaining two extreme positions of printing cylinders, i.e. a contact of four cylinders except an impression cylinder and a contact of five cylinders including the impression cylinder, through effecting angular displacements of eccentric sleeves attached to respective printing cylinders simultaneously by a common link mechanism, an angle increase shifting mechanism is interposed between the starting end of the link mechanism and the end of an actuator. Whereby, the pair of printing cylinders can be directly shifted from one to the other extreme positions by a single stroke of the actuator.A member attached to a main shaft of the angle increase shifting mechanism is divided into three pieces of a front piece, center piece and a rear piece, and the center piece is adapted to be selected engaged by and disengaged from the front and rear pieces by means of a pin clutch mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4207815
Abstract: A multiple-color, offset rotary press is disclosed wherein each plate cylinder carries two printing plates, with one of them wrapped around a larger diameter portion of the plate cylinder and the other around a tube slidably fitted over a smaller diameter portion of the cylinder. A shaft secured to the tube and extending coaxially from one end of the plate cylinder, and an axle extending coaxially from the other cylinder end, are mounted on frame means for independent rotary and axial motion. A pair of driven helical gears are mounted respectively on the shaft and the axle for simultaneous rotation therewith but for axial motion relative to same and are meshed respectively with a pair of driving helical gears fixedly mounted on the opposite axles of a corresponding blanket cylinder. The positions of the printing plates are separately adjusted in the circumferential direction by causing axial motion of the driven helical gears, and in the axial direction by causing axial motion of the shaft and the axle.
