  • Publication number: 20050100473
Abstract: Aluminum alloys and castings are provided that have excellent practical fatigue resistances. The alloy includes, based upon 100 mass %, 4-12 mass % of Si, less than 0.2 mass % of Cu, 0.1-0.5 mass % of Mg, 0.2-3.0 mass % of Ni, 0.1-0.7 mass % of Fe, 0.15-0.3 mass % of Ti, and the balance of aluminum (Al) and impurities. The alloy has a metallographic structure, which includes a matrix phase primarily of ?-Al and a skeleton phase crystallizing around the matrix phase in a network shape. The matrix phase is strengthened by precipitates containing Mg. Because of the strengthened matrix phase, and the skeleton phase that surrounds it, the castings have high strength, high fatigue strength, and high thermo-mechanical fatigue resistance.

  • Patent number: 5700659
Abstract: A highly thermostable polypeptide possessing protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) activity, a gene coding for the polypeptide and a process for producing the polyeptide are provided. The polypeptide possessing PDI activity is characterized by A) having a capability of catalyzing a disulfide exchange in proteins, B) recognizing mainly ribonuclease A as a substrate, C) having a suitable active temperature of 20.degree. to 70.degree. C., D) being stable at a pH value of 6 to 9, and E) having a molecular weight of about 60,000 to 62,000. Since it has a higher thermostability and exhibits a stable activity in a wider dithiothreitol concentration range as compared with the conventional PDI, it is possible to provide a novel enzyme active protein which can be advantageously used for a refolding reaction of certain proteins.

  • Patent number: 5220508
Abstract: An outer environment of the vehicle is inputted as an image. Image processing is performed to the input image, and many edge segments are extracted. The edge segments which are colinear are clustered in order to perform a matching operation. Matching is performed in a respective set of plural longer edge segments representing plural clusters in correspondence with a set of plural guide signs as standards of guide of the vehicle mapped on the image input surface, and a set of longer edge segments being most matched each other is extracted. From position and headings of the extracted longer edge segments on the image input surface, the position and heading in the outer environment are calculated. The position and heading of the vehicle are detected from these values. The position and heading of the vehicle obtained in the above-mentioned image processing and the position and heading of the vehicle measured by other techniques and are evaluated synthetically.

  • Patent number: 4843056
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying catalyst for oxidizing HC and CO and for reducing NOx is provided, which comprises at least one oxide of rare earth element, rhodium, and at least one of platinum and palladium loaded on alumina grains. The major amount of rhodium is dispersed on the oxide of rare earth element. Thus, the rhodium solidification into the alumina grains is prevented. Further, when cerium oxide accompanying lanthanum oxide, neodymium oxide or a mixture thereof is used as the oxide of rare earth element, the sintering of cerium oxide or palladium at a high temperature is suppressed since it forms a complex oxide with lanthanum oxide, neodymium oxide or a mixture thereof. Additionally, when stabilized alumina grains in which a rare earth element and an alkali earth element are present in a solid solution state are used, the deterioration of NOx purifying activity of the catalyst at a high temperature is suppressed.
