The light source further comprises a socket that extends from a side of the semiconductor element opposite the light-emitting surface, the socket being provided for being placed in a frame located in the device, wherein the socket comprises contact elements and lines for power supply to the semiconductor element. The light source is particularly robust and long-lasting.
Abstract: A laser handpiece, which has an outer guide sleeve in which a light guide is contained, is provided with a releasable clamping device. By the rotation of a rotary ring on the guide sleeve, the clamping device can be released and an advancing of the light guide, either manually or automatically, can be guaranteed.

Abstract: In a method of operating a brushless electric motor, having a permanent magnet rotor and a stator with three windings electrically offset by 120°, provided for example for driving a dental treatment instrument, the zero crossings of a voltage induced by rotation of the rotor in the stator windings is detected by a comparison of a voltage at an inactive stator winding in a monitoring phase with a comparison voltage, and on the basis of the detected zero crossings there is determined the speed of rotation of the motor and/or a suitable commutation point for an intermediate circuit voltage delivered to the stator windings. The comparison voltage is formed by the voltages at the two further, active stator windings in the monitoring phase.

Abstract: A motor element for a dental medical handpiece or a motor spindle has an elongated shank, rotatably mounted in which there is a drive shaft and a longitudinally-extending rod, a tool-holder for a tool within the rod, and a disconnectable coupling between the rod and the tool-holder. A locking element secures the coupling to prevent the coupling from becoming disconnected from the elongated shank. The locking/unlocking of the coupling is effected by a relative movement between the tool-holder and the tool.

Abstract: A dental face-bow comprising a base part, two side arms that extend from the base part and two positioning elements, for example ear pieces for positioning the face-bow on the head of the patient. The positioning elements are situated on the side arms and can be displaced in relation to the side arms. The face-bow is also provided with a displacement device which is used to simultaneously displace the two positioning elements in relation to the side arms. To drive the positioning elements, a dial, which is situated on the base part, can be used for example to turn a flexible shaft that is rotatably mounted inside the two side arms. the two ends of the shaft are equipped with gears that co-operate with gear rods on the positioning elements. This arrangement permits the face-bow to be placed on a patient extremely gently, as there is in particular no relative displacement of the side arms.
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and a device for determining the motor moment constant kM of an electric motor by measuring motor parameters on the running motor. For reduction of the previously considerable measuring effort it is proposed that firstly the generator voltage UEMK produced by the motor is measured, and in that the motor moment constant kM is calculated by division of the generator voltage UEMK and the speed of rotation fMot of the motor, taking into consideration at least one further constant. The method and the device are suitable for DC motors and for 3-phase synchronous motors.
Abstract: A dental laser treatment instrument comprising a handpiece that is connected to a supply tube for supplying laser radiation and a treatment fluid, and has a long extraction element on the front end thereof, for emitting the laser radiation. The extraction element has a long optical fiber and a cylindrical or sleeve-type holding element which surrounds the optical fiber in a region facing the front end of the fiber, at a distance from said fiber, in order to form a fluid channel. The fluid channel is connected to a supply line extending through the handpiece. According to the invention, the sleeve-type holding element projects past the front optical output end of the optical fiber.

Abstract: A system for driving an electric handpiece in response to a pneumatic control signal may provide for fast interchange of handpieces, self-calibration and wide dynamic range of operation with precise speed control. The system may be incorporated into virtually any dental treatment center using traditional pneumatic drive handpieces, and a conversion kit may facilitate such conversion. The system may provide not only for controlling the speed and torque of a tool coupled to an electric drive handpiece responsive to a pneumatic control signal, it may also provide for coupling cooling air and treatment media, such as air and/or water to the handpiece. Coupling of a handpiece to an operating base of the system, including coupling of media lines and electrical connections may be made with a simple press and twist action using quick connection structure.
