    Abstract: A driving device for driving a fastener (2) includes a centering mechanism (9) for centering and guiding the fastener (2). The centering mechanism includes centering elements (10, 26, 36, 37) that are tiltably or slidably connected to a mounting body (3) to be movable in directions tangential to the fastener. The centering elements (10) have contact surfaces (19) for contacting the fastener (2) that are each substantially parallel to the direction of motion of the respective centering element (10). In this manner, the centering elements (10) cannot be deflected radially away from the fastener, and any forces applied laterally outwardly by the fastener against the contact surfaces (19) are rigidly received and resisted by the centering elements (10) and the mounting body (3) in which they are held.

    Abstract: In a non-commutating-pole commutator motor, in particular as the drive of a power hand tool, a device for reversing the direction of rotation includes a switch (8) for reversing the direction of current in the rotor winding, and a brush apparatus (4) mounted immovably in the motor casing. The rotation of the plane defined by the commutating coils is chosen in such a manner that good commutation is assured in one of the two directions of rotation at full motor output. Furthermore, the switch (8) for reversing the direction of rotation yields the preferred direction of rotation in a first switch position and the opposite direction in a second switch position. In the switch position for the preferred direction, a smaller number of turns of the field winding (1, 2) in the electric circuit of the motor is effectively provided while, in the opposite direction of rotation of the motor, a larger number of turns is effectively provided.

The belt feeder mechanism (1) has a feeder lever (12) coupled to the rotating screw drive blade (11, 28) through a coupling device including a rocker lever (16) and a toggle lever (18) for a stepwise advance of the belt (4) through the feeder housing perpendicularly to the screw drive shaft. A cam driven by the screw drive shaft advances the feeder lever with each blade rotation whereby the power of the drive motor is used for the belt advance thereby relieving the operator.

A spring biases the deflector member into a rest position and the advancing belt brings the deflector member into a working position in which it holds the leading end of the belt out of the way.

    Abstract: Exhaust noise emitted by a pneumatically operated tool, such as a nailer, is damped by an external damping ring which surrounds the exhaust openings. Preferably, the damping ring is inserted into an outwardly open circumferential groove into which the exhaust openings of the tool housing merge. The ring is sufficiently elastic to permit the escape of the exhaust air, thereby damping the noise. The ring may be an elastic rubber or synthetic material ring (12) or it may be a tightly woven ring spring (12A).

For this purpose, the guide device extending in parallel to the milling or drive shaft of the edge router is provided in the form of two separate parallel guide elements (9, 9'). Even if the guide roller rolls along a curved or rounded, or otherwise uneven edge and even if one of the guide elements is already outside the surface of the work piece, the other parallel guide element will still be positively engaged with the top surface of the panel type work piece for positive guiding at all times.

    Abstract: Flat multi-layered work pieces, such as panels with a decorative or finish surface coating (5), are prescored and cut through by the same saw blade to avoid damage to the surface coating. For this purpose a circular saw (1) is guided along a guide rail (7) and its saw blade (4) is adjustable to a prescoring depth and to at least one lateral prescoring position to make a first prescoring cut only through the cover layer (5) in a sawing direction in synchronism with the blade rotation direction. If necessary, the blade is adjusted to a second lateral prescoring position to make a second prescoring cut only through the cover layer (5) in a cutting direction in synchronism with the blade rotation. Finally, the saw blade (4) is adjusted to its full cutting depth and to a lateral position between the two prescoring positions and a full cut is made through the entire work piece (6) in a sawing direction counter to the rotation direction of the saw blade.

    Abstract: A handheld screw driving gun (1) has a handle (17) extending essentially perpendicularly relative to the motor axis (3--3) and a screwing axis (6--6) which is off-set below the motor axis. The handle is connected approximately at the center of gravity of the screw gun (1). A screwing bit (5) is also off-set from the motor axis (3--3) and is rotatably supported in a guide head (7) between the motor axis (3--3) and the handle (17). In this arrangement, the index finger of an operator's hand on the handle approximately aligns with the axis of the screwing bit (5) so as to assure a screwing direction perpendicularly to a work surface without applying any tilting forces to a screw. The arrangement of the drive motor behind the handle and the screwing unit in front of the handle provides a balance that reduces fatigue while holding and operating the screw gun with one hand.

    Abstract: A driving device for securing fasteners (7) such as nails, staples, etc., which are stored in a magazine (6) to be supplied to an ejection channel (5) provided with an opening (8) closed by a spring biased nose plate (9) elastically held by a spring (14) against the opening (8) of the ejection channel (5) in the nose portion (4) on the side opposite the magazine (6). When jamming occurs between a driving plunger (2) and fastener (7), the nose plate (9) lifts itself against the bias of the spring, whereby jamming is frequently avoided automatically. If jamming occurs nevertheless, the nose plate (9) may be completely removed from the opening (8) of the ejection channel (5) so that the jamming may easily be cleared. Potential jamming situations are often avoided since the nose plate (9) may deflect to partially open the ejection channel (5).

    Abstract: In order to achieve an improved chip and shaving ejection in a portable per, a small portion of the motor cooling air stream is diverted and directed through an air passage into a chip ejection channel. The volume flow of this chip ejection air stream may be controlled by a control slider gate to suit various operating conditions. The chip ejection air stream also serves to cool the drive belt and planing head. The diverted air flow keeps the chips in a sufficiently loose state to assure an effective, clog-free ejection of chips. Furthermore, a deflection flap is used in the chip ejection channel to eject the chips to either side of the tool as desired.

The housing insert (6) is made of a synthetic material having a high inner damping, so that the excess driving energy and thus the impact noise are dissipated to a large extent already in the housing insert (6). Thus, the operator is not exposed to any unnecessary nuisance and the housing (1) may be manufactured more easily in an economical manner at lesser expense.

    Abstract: Nails, screws and the like, referred to as fasteners, are automatically supplied into the magazine of a driver for the fasteners from a supply chute. A slide pusher may extend out of the free end of the magazine and cooperates with a gate at the discharge end of the supply chute, whereby the gate is opened when the free end of the magazine is inserted into the discharge end of the supply chute. In this position the magazine slide pusher is located in a recess to permit the fasteners to freely pass by the slide pusher into the magazine guide channel. When the magazine is full it is withdrawn from the supply chute, whereby a spring closes the gate and the slide pusher is moved back into the magazine guide channel to push the fasteners toward the magazine discharge end under the force of a spring in the magazine.
