Patent number: 8721660Abstract: A fiducial marker system (210a-c) comprises a first unit and a second unit. The first unit is patient affixable and comprises a partly spherical inner surface having a first center point that is adapted to receive a touch probe measurement head for measuring the spatial position of the center point. The second unit is releasably attachable to an outer surface of the first unit, and has a second center point, wherein the first center point and the second center point are substantially identical when the second unit is attached to the first unit. For stereotactic therapy, a patient is imaged with the first and second unit assembled. Then the second unit is detached. A stereotactic frame (300) is attached to the first units via arms. Thus frameless imaging is provided in a frame based stereotactic surgery system with high precision. Repeated assembly of the frame (300) to the first units, remaining in the patient, provides advantageous fractionized stereotactic radiotherapy.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2008Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Karolinska Institutet Innovations ABInventors: Elfar Ulfarsson, Anders Nordell, Bo Nordell

Patent number: 4793362Abstract: The change in body fluid is monitored by placing a pair of electrodes at spaced locations on a body, i.e. a wrist and a diametrically opposed ankle and generating two high frequency alternating currents, one of 1.5 kHz and the other 150 kHz, through the body via the electrodes. Another pair of electrodes is placed in the current path of the first pair of electrodes and connected to a detector for measuring body impedances at the two frequencies. A microprocessor calculates the change in fluid weight of the body according to the empiric formula: ##EQU1## where .DELTA.V=change in fluid weightk=a proportionality constant having a negative valueS=body surface area, based on the patient's weight and lengthZ.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 =impedance at the lower frequency (for example 1.5 kHz), and respectively, the higher frequency (for example 150 kHz) at the second measuring occasionZ.sub.1.sbsb.i and Z.sub.2.sbsb.i =corresponding impedances at the first measuring occasion (intitial values).Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1983Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: Karolinska InstitutetInventor: Bo Tedner

Patent number: 4608995Abstract: An arrangement for the non-invasive determination of the minute volume Q of the heart is arranged to determine the amount of a sufficiently soluble gas, e.g. carbon dioxide or nitrous oxide, present in the blood, prior to and subsequent to the passage of the blood through the heart. The expired and inspired gases are separated from one another with each breath taken. Transducers feed respective devices for determining the gas content of the respiration gas, and the magnitude of the expiration gas flow and the inspiration gas flow. These devices are controlled by a microprocessor, which is programmed to supply gas from a gas source, to meter the gas during a subsequent inspiration cycle, and to control an indicator for the Q-value. The gas is controlled in a manner such that the gas-content of the lungs is changed in accordance with a given program. The Q-value is calculated for pairs of respiration cycles in accordance with the formula: ##EQU1## in which V.sub.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1984Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Assignee: Karolinska Institutet Institutionen for Medicinsk TeknikInventors: Dag Linnarsson, Hans Larsson
