Abstract: Seals are formed in bags made from a flexible web. The sealing element is a heated wire. The thermal conductivity of the wire is selected in reference to the melt and tack characteristics of the film being sealed such that when the film is placed in heat-exchange relationship with the wire, the film is sealed. Futher, at least a portion of the film travels on the sealing element. The resistance across the sealing element remains constant during sealing and while the web travels sequentially.
