  • Patent number: 7896112
Abstract: A supplementary support structure, which supports the body of a robot (1), comprises a contact component (7) which is disposed in a part near a joint (2c) on the distal end, having a hand (3) disposed thereon, of an arm (2) of the robot (1) so as to come into contact with a surface on which the robot (1) is supported, such as a floor surface, and a member which lies between the part having the contact component (7) disposed therein and the proximal end of the arm (2). Thus, the supplementary support structure can avoid an increase in the weight of the hand resulting from the support structure, thus eliminate an extra load on a driving system for the hand or the arm, and thus achieve the simplification and size reduction of the driving system. Moreover, the support structure can increase the degree of freedom of the shape or functional design of the hand and thus improve the functioning of the robot.

  • Patent number: 7757991
Abstract: In a blade vortex interaction (BVI) noise reduction system for a helicopter a rotor blade, a tab is movable via an actuator from a first position, wherein the tab is within the blade, to a second position, wherein the tab extends outwardly from a trailing edge of the rotor blade. The actuator is operated so that the tab advances and retreats in response to rotating timing of the rotor blade, to reduce the BVI noise of the rotor blade.

  • Patent number: 7138200
Abstract: An improved fuel cell makes uniform partial gas pressure of a fuel gas flowing through a gas passage formed between an electrode and a separator of a fuel cell, activating an electrode reaction in a whole region of the electrode surface along the gas passage. The inlet and outlet for the fuel gas are disposed on a diagonal line of the separator to define a gas passage such that fuel gas smoothly flows even though portions of the passage away from the diagonal line. This may reduce the separator size and improve the volumetric efficiency of the fuel cell and the diffusibility of fuel gas as well as the drainage of water produced by the electrode reaction.

  • Patent number: 6384594
Abstract: Through differentiation of input signal Vw from a sensor the angular frequency &ohgr; becomes included in the amplitude component. Through a plurality of differential operations the amplitude including the angular frequency &ohgr; varies, but the time-dependent term becomes equal. Since the amplitude of the signal Vw outputted from the revolution speed sensor 10 is approximately constant, the angular frequency &ohgr; proportional to the revolution speed can be extracted by determining a ratio thereof.

  • Patent number: 5784739
Abstract: As a countermeasure against storms for long span, particularly super-long span suspension bridges with the center span exceeding 2,000 m, there is provided a super-long span suspension bridge which can be improved of its static and dynamic wind resistance performance by applying a mass to a portion of the girder. In a suspension bridge with the center span exceeding 2,000 m, a mass application member capable of temporarily carrying a predetermined amount of additional load is provided on either side of the stiffening girder for a distance equal to 1/3 at the maximum of the center span so that a mass weighing 30% or less of the weight of the girder is temporarily applied in the mass application member in the girder on the windward side when the bridge is subjected to a storm, and cross stays are provided each at a point inward from either end of the center span section at a distance equal to 1/4 to 1/3 of the center span.

  • Patent number: 5562414
Abstract: A noise deduction for a rotorcraft includes a unit to produce compressed air, a drive shaft provided with a first air supply passage in which the compressed air from the air-producing unit flows, and rotor blades provided with second air supply passages in which the air from the first air supply passage flows. In order to eject the compressed air supplied from the rotor blades, ejection nozzles having an ejection adjusting mechanism therein are arranged at respective blade tips of the rotor blades and respective trailing edges thereof in the rotational direction. In operation, the ejection nozzles eject the compressed air to the radial direction of the rotor blades, so that, since the blade tip vortex in the vicinity of the blade tip of the preceding rotor blade is relocated outside the blade tip of the following rotor blade, a direct collision thereof on the vortex can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 5539946
Abstract: The stiffening girder type suspension bridge according to the present invention is designed with a smaller dead load under normal conditions, and applied with a temporary dead load as an additional mass to improve the static characteristics and aerodynamic stability when the bridge is subjected to particularly violent storms that result in significant vibrations and swaying of the bridge. The present invention bridge structure is highly economical. A passage is provided in the stiffening girder at the center of its width along the direction of the bridge axis, so that a temporary dead load as an additional mass can be moved into the passage. Under normal conditions, the passage is kept empty of the load. When an imminent storm is anticipated, a given amount of liquid or solid is transferred into the passage located within the stiffening girder to temporarily apply a given amount of temporary dead load to the stiffening girder during a storm to control vibrations of the bridge caused by the winds.
