  • Patent number: 6543300
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring a load of a hoisting apparatus, where electricity is used as the driving force and a squirrel cage motor as the hoisting motor for moving a load attached to a hoisting member of the hoisting apparatus substantially in the vertical direction. The method and arrangement are employed to determine air gap torque of the hoisting motor, which describes the load of the hoisting apparatus, utilizing magnetization flux of the hoisting motor determined on the basis of the current, supply voltage and stator winding resistance of the hoisting motor. The value of the air gap torque is compared with an air gap torque curve determined for the hoisting apparatus at known reference loads to determine the load that corresponds to the air gap torque in question.

  • Patent number: 6209690
Abstract: A load brake having a load shaft, a flange-like pressure plate fixedly mounted onto the load shaft, and a cogwheel arranged on the load shaft. A tension device produces an axial motion and force in the cogwheel as the wheel rotates with respect to the load shaft, and a ratchet wheel is mounted between the pressure plate and the cogwheel. A pawl prevents the rotation of the ratchet wheel at least in the release direction of the load shaft, and friction surfaces are provided between the pressure plate and the ratchet wheel, and the ratchet wheel and the cogwheel. Rotation that tends towards the release direction of the load shaft and that is faster than the speed of rotation of the cogwheel brings the pressure plate and the cogwheel closer together in the axial direction and presses them against the ratchet wheel.

  • Patent number: 5899441
Abstract: In an electric chain hoist, there is a slipping clutch in the drive line which connects the electric motor to the chain sprocket, the slipping clutch acting as an overload safeguard. A holding brake is also provided to hold the drive line in the braked state when the motor is switched off. The brake exerts its braking action primarily on that part of the drive line which lies between the slipping clutch and the chain sprocket. To prevent the slipping clutch from entering the slipping state when the motor is switched on before the brake has been released to a sufficient extent, the brake is designed in such a way that it acts on both parts of the drive line.

  • Patent number: 5853165
Abstract: A chain hoist contains a slipping overload clutch in the drive line which connects the electric motor to the chain sprocket. This slipping clutch has two clutch halves which are in frictional engagement with one another and are preloaded into frictional engagement with one another by a spring. A holding brake is furthermore provided and this holding brake acts against the clutch disks so as to increase the frictional grip between the clutch disks in the applied state. This ensures that when the hoist is started and the disengagement of the brake is delayed, the slipping clutch does not enter the slipping state.

  • Patent number: 5811945
Abstract: A travel drive for a trolley traveling gear of hoists has a drive train which has the properties of a freewheel as regards the direction of travel. Consequently load oscillation can be rapidly damped out because the speed of the traveling gear is not forcibly held constant during the semioscillation of the load in which it moves ahead of the traveling gear. On the contrary, the swinging load is able to drag the traveling gear behind it, accelerating it in the process, and in this way to convert oscillation energy into driving energy.
