  • Apparatus and method for measuring native mammalian blood viscosity

    Abstract: A clinical whole blood viscometer and a method for obtaining instantaneous whole blood viscosity measurements over a wide range of shear rates with a single blood sample is described. A conventionally acquired sample of fresh blood is drawn from a patient and introduced into the viscometer so as to establish viscous flow, the viscosity measurements being taken by remote sensing devices activated by compliant solids or gases in contact with the sample.
