  • Patent number: 5044371
Abstract: A memory unit for the non-volatile storage of data for controlling an ergometer with respect to the performance applied by the user in dependence on time and/or distance is formed as an independent structural unit which can be connected by the user to an ergometer for a selectable period of time for data recording and/or data reading.

  • Patent number: 4786049
Abstract: A bicycle ergometer having selectable reference value programs for the braking moment, in accordance with which the braking moment of a controllable brake is automatically adjusted in dependence upon the number of pedal revolutions is disclosed, in which each reference value program for the braking moment is represented by a road in a landscrape depicted on a display. Light-emitting diodes are arranged along these roads with the distances from a starting point to the points marked by these light-emitting diodes corresponding to the number of necessary pedal revolutions. As the number of pedal revolutions defined by the diodes is reached, the appropriate light-emitting diode lights up. A multiple-gear-shift simulator with a manually actuatable gear selector simulates a multiple-gear transmission.

  • Patent number: 4738445
Abstract: An ergometer having an ergometer module with a braking device as well as two cranks as drive elements. The ergometer module is connected with the frame of a bench in a manner that allows a height and longitudinal adjustment of the ergometer module relative to the bench. The ergometer module is continuously pivotable by an electric motor driven self-locking adjustment drive for accommodating users of varying heights.

  • Patent number: 4576051
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ergometer having an eddy current brake serving as a loading device, comprising a rotatably mounted brake wheel placed into rotation by means of a drive device and having a cylindrical ring made from an electrically conductive material. A stationary magnet system acts as a loading device and has an air gap disposed between the poles of the magnet system directed toward the ring and the ring itself. Depressions in the surface of the brake wheel run laterally to the direction of movement and are provided at one side of the air gap opposite the poles of the magnet system. The magnet system supports a measurement coil permeated by the magnetic flux which closes over the brake wheel. The fluctuations in the magnetic flux resulting from the grooves cause a voltage to be induced in the measurement coil, from which the rotational speed of the brake wheel and the effective braking torque can be calculated.

  • Patent number: 4287894
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for producing a succession of pulses corresponding to the succession of pulse beats of a person. The apparatus has a pulse detector and at least one stage subsequent to the pulse detector to suppress disruptive influences. The invention is characterized by a voltage-controlled pulse generator which is controlled by a comparator. The comparator compares the contents of two memories of which the first stores the pulse coming from the pulse detector and the second stores the pulse appearing at the output of the pulse generator.
