  • Patent number: 5069505
Abstract: A vehicle seat, especially an air passenger seat, has a front (1) and a rear (2) foot, at least on one side. These feet are connected together, in the area of their upper end, by means of a longitudinal strut (5). The longitudinal strut (5) has a fastening point (6) for a safety belt. The connection between the front foot (1) and the longitudinal strut (5) is designed to prevent rotation, and the connection between the rear foot (2) and the longitudinal strut (5) is designed as a rotary connection which permits motion about an axis that extends perpendicular to the direction of the seat. The rear foot (2) is curved against the front foot (1), between an upper and lower end region, and has a U-profile that is open towards the side.

  • Patent number: 5022698
Abstract: A vehicle seat having at least one hinge fitting, the upper fitting element (10) of which is associated with the backrest (11) and the lower fitting element of which is associated with the seat frame, has a hook (14) which is arranged so as to be pivotable in a suspended manner, runs parallel to the hinge axle in its locked position, and securely engages behind lock bolts (29) to be connected with the floor of the vehicle. The upper fitting element (10) has a detent (28) in a surface (27) that extends in its pivot direction. A counter detent (22') is provided at one end of a double-armed pivot lever (20), which is pivotably mounted on the lower fitting element and is spring-loaded in the sense of moving the counter detent (22') toward the detent (28). The detent (28) and the counter detent (22') are in engagement in an angular position of the upper fitting element (10) that lies outside of the use position of the backrest ( 11), and form a form-fitting pivot block for the upper fitting element (10).

  • Patent number: 4978170
Abstract: A seat for use in a motor vehicle has a body supporting unit and a back rest which is pivotably connected to the body supporting unit by two hinges having pintles provided with eccentrics which cause the back rest to perform a composite pivotal and transverse movement while it changes its orientation with reference to the body supporting unit. The back rest carries two pivotably mounted arm rests which are connected to the back rest and to the body supporting unit by linkages serving to ensure that the orientation of the arm rests remains substantially or completely unchanged while the back rest is pivoted with reference to the body supporting unit. A second linkage can be used to pivot the front ends of the arm rests rearwardly and upwardly when the back rest is lifted with reference to the body supporting unit and is pivoted forwardly toward the dashboard in a two-door motor vehicle in order to afford convenient access to the rear seats or to permit a passenger to leave a rear seat with a minimum of effort.

  • Patent number: 4969622
Abstract: The vertically adjustable seat of a motor vehicle is mounted on two spaced-apart parallel rails each of which is reciprocable along a discrete track having an inverted C-shaped cross-sectional outline. Each rail has two spaced-apart parallel vertical sidewalls which are held apart and are connected to each other by several laminae and bolts serving to urge the edge faces of the laminae against the inner sides of the sidewalls. The marginal portions of the laminae have projections which are received in complementary sockets of the sidewalls. The sidewalls are extrusions of light metal, and the laminae are made of the same material. The rear end portion of one of the rails has a coupling for one end portion of a safety belt, and the configurations of the lower portions of the sidewalls and the adjacent portions of the track are such that the rails are confined to reciprocatory movement longitudinally of the respective tracks.

  • Patent number: 4934755
Abstract: A back rest for the seats of motor vehicles has a frame which carries a relatively short adjustable shoulder support. The sides of the shoulder rest are mounted on pairs of links, and the shoulder rest can be pivoted by two levers each of which is pivotable relative to the frame jointly with one of the links at the respective side of the shoulder rest and is attached to the shoulder rest by a pin-and-slot connection. The levers can be pivoted by reciprocable slides which are mounted on the frame and have followers extending into cam slots of the corresponding levers. The slides can be moved up and down longitudinally of the respective sides of the frame by rack and pinion drives which can be operated by a hand wheel or by a motor. The links cooperate with the levers to impart to the shoulder rest a composite movement including a translatory movement which is superimposed upon a pivotal movement about an imaginary axis located below and remote from the lowermost portion of the shoulder rest.

  • Patent number: 4930841
Abstract: A back-rest adjuster with a free pivot device for a vehicle seat comprises between a drive device and the gearing which adjusts the fitting parts (5, 6) in relation to each other a shiftable clutch which has to be released for free pivoting and which comprises two clutch parts (13, 14) adpated for movement in an axial direction and in relation to each other. Associated with one clutch part and adapted for movement together with and disposed concentrically in relation to it is a memory ring (15) disposed between a drive ring (19) which is non-rotatable in relation to one fitting part (6) and a ratchet ring (21) which is non-rotatable in relation to the other fitting part (5). The memory ring (15) and the drive ring (19) which, when the clutch is released, are capable of limited rotation in relation to each other, are form-lockingly coupled to each other only in one single position at the end of the range of rotation, when the clutch is closed.

  • Patent number: 4874204
Abstract: A hinge joint for use in the seats of motor vehicles has a first leaf which is affixed to the body-supporting part of the seat, a second leaf which is affixed to the pivotable back rest of the seat, and a pintle which provides a pivot for the second leaf. Each of the leaves is provided with a gear and one of the gears surrounds the other gear and has a larger number of teeth. One of the leaves is mounted on two coaxial portions of the pintle, and the gear of the other leaf spacedly surrounds a sleeve which is axially movably mounted on an eccentric portion of the pintle between the two coaxial portions and serves as a retainer for a diaphragm spring which biases the gear of the other leaf axially and radially into mesh with the gear of the one leaf. A needle bearing is interposed between the sleeve and the eccentric portion of the pintle, and a ring can be placed around the diaphragm spring to be in turn surrounded by a passive gear or by a ring-shaped extension of the one component.
