Abstract: Antioxidant formulations containing new active molecules with tocopherols are disclosed. The best performing formulas contain extracts of green tea that are oil soluble, extracts of rosemary, extracts of spearmint and tocotrienols. Interestingly, the amount of tocopherols in formulas could be reduced by 50% in this diet when the other actives were increased accordingly.

Abstract: A method for improving water quality in aquatic ecosystems is described. An effective amount of Quercus infectoria nut gall powder is added to the ecosystem to prevent excessive proliferation of pathogenic bacterial species thereby improving the health of aquaculture species in the ecosystem.
Abstract: The thermal stability of enzymes is improved by incorporating the enzyme in a matrix of a non-reducing sugar, such as trehalose. Heat-stable compositions of enzymes and sugar are formed by adding the enzymes to a sugar syrup and drying the mixture either by spreading it on a carrier or by spray drying. The enzyme compositions retain higher levels of activity after being subjected to heat in product-forming processes, such as steam pelleting of animal feed supplemented with the enzyme compositions.

Abstract: A method of forming an encapsulated composition with enhanced solubility and stability. A bicontinuous or Winsor Type III microemulsion is formed using an emulsifier, a solvent and a co-emulsifier. An active composition is added to the microemulsion resulting in a micellar network of the active composition within the microemulsion. The active composition can be either water-soluble or oil-soluble or both.

Abstract: A stabilized carotenoid-based pigmenter free of synthetic antioxidants for the addition to animal feed to add color to tissues of animals fed the animal feed. The carotenoid-based pigmenter contains free-form carotenoids obtained from natural sources through a saponification reaction. A natural antioxidant, such as grape seed extracts, green tea extracts, clove bud oil, clove leaf oil, Vitamin C, cinnamon leaf oil, oleoresin turmeric, tocopherol, tocotrienol, rosemary extracts and gallic acid or salts thereof combined with a diluent, preferably glycerol or a glycerol-like substance, is added to the pigmenter after the saponification reaction.

Abstract: A method of drying fresh plant material wherein the fresh plant material containing a desired heat labile compound is exposed to microwave energy at an intensity and for a time sufficient to remove a majority of the water from the plant material without degrading a majority of the heat labile compound. The method is particularly suited to in-field drying of freshly harvested plant material to reduce the weight and volume of the plant material for savings transportation costs to an extraction facility while preserving at high levels the amount and activity of the desired heat labile compound.

Abstract: A system for the controlled release of one or more physiologically or pharmacologically active substances, comprising compositions in the form of micro particles or granules, particularly for use in the zootechnical and/or veterinary field. The micro particles include a core which contains one or more substances having a pharmacological action, food supplements or diagnostic media, said one or more substances being characterized by the presence, within their chemical structure, of a basic functional group, specifically including an amine functional group. The core comprises also one or more carboxylic acids and/or their salts and eventually one or more excipients. Said core is coated by an outer layer of fats or waxes, and preferably by a mixture of glyceride of fatty acids.
