Abstract: The present invention provides a method for treating wastewater or wastewater sludge, in which method percarboxylic acid is used as an odor controlling agent and/or corrosion controlling agent.
Abstract: In a water treatment system, a pretreatment chemical is added to water stream in a pretreatment process including a coagulation, flocculation and separation to reduce amount of dissolved and/or particulate matter in the water stream. Hydrophobic conditions in the water stream are monitored upstream or downstream from adding the pretreatment chemicals. Dosing of the pretreatment chemical to the water stream is controlled based on the monitored hydrophobic conditions. Thereby a membrane fouling in subsequent membrane filtration stage can be minimized.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling hydrophobic particles in aqueous environment in paper or board manufacture. The method comprises preparing an aqueous stock comprising natural fibrous material, feeding the stock to a wire section, where a fibrous web is formed by draining excess water through a wire, and adding a control chemical to aqueous environment at least in one dosage point between the preparation of the stock and the exit of the web from the wire section. The control chemical comprises performic acid, which is added to the aqueous stock, which has consistency of at least 3 weight-%.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing pulp viscosity in production of dissolving pulp. The method comprises producing cellulose pulp, whereby the obtained cellulose pulp has a cellulose content of at least 90%, and bleaching the obtained cellulose pulp. The cellulose pulp is treated after bleaching with performic acid.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for quantitative monitoring of bacterial endospores in an aqueous environment of a paper or board mill. The method comprises at least the following steps: obtaining at least a first aqueous sample originating from the industrial aqueous environment; destroying bacteria in vegetative form in the first sample by a suitable treatment, preferably by heating the first sample to a desired temperature; adding intercalating agent (such as PMA) to the treated first sample and allowing it to interact (e.g. by cross-linking) with the destroyed bacteria, so that the nucleic acid from the destroyed bacteria are unavailable for PCR; and determining the endospore level in the first sample by using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in which only the DNA from the endospores is available for amplification.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device, system and method to measure tackiness of a substance, such as pulp, with an on-line or an in-line sensor having a transparent plate with a surface where tacky particles can attach. Attached particles are identified by a camera behind the plate. The camera is focused to detect stationary particles attached to the surface. Measurement is performed directly from a process stream or from a sidesteam and the plate does not need to be removed from the process for the measurement. The plate material may be plastic, such as polycarbonate or acrylic. Additionally, the flow speed may be kept be low, e.g. <0.1 m/s at the measurement position, and/or there may be a stagnation point of flow at or near measurement where the flow speed approaches zero.
