Patent number: 4815477Abstract: A urine meter attached to a flexible urine collection bag. The urine meter comprises a rigid container which is dischargeable into the collection bag. A valve is disposed at the bottom of the rigid container to permit small samples to be taken in a sterile, multiple use, manner. The valve also permits large urine samples to be taken from the container, by the release of a bias device on the valve. The large samples are taken infrequently. The small samples are taken from a reusable sampling port which reseals itself when the sampling device, such as a hypodermic needle, is withdrawn.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1986Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventors: Daniel M. Patent number: 4800910Abstract: A walker having a unique leg support system in which the walker's two stationary front legs are interchangeable at the user's discretion with two wheeled front legs, both types of legs being height adjustable relative to the walker's framework. The wheeled front legs are connectable to the walker's frame so the wheels can be oriented on either the outboard or the inboard of the walker's front leg. Each wheeled front leg includes a wheel axle and a pivot axle connected thereto, the pivot axle being pivotably connected to a front leg so the front leg can roll along a support surface, e.g., ground, on the wheel when the wheel is pivoted to a first position and so the front leg's foot can stand stationary on the support surface when the wheel is pivoted to a second position.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventor: Paul B. Patent number: 4795451Abstract: A disposable absorbent pad for use as a baby diaper or an adult incontinent brief wherein the backing sheet of the diaper has a pair of continuous bands of adhesive arranged in a stepped generally longitudinal configuration thereon. An elastic band is disposed over the mid-portion of the adhesive being stepped to the side, out of contact with the elastic. When the pads are cut in the assembly process, only that portion of elastic in contact with the adhesive causes the pad to gather. The remaining end portions of the adhesive bands are secured to the intermediate layer of absorbent fluff material, helping it remain in place, and act as a fluid barrier on the sides of the absorbent pad.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1986Date of Patent: January 3, 1989Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventor: Mary E. Patent number: 4764242Abstract: A machine for applying continuous bands of adhesive generally longitudinally along an absorbent pad, which pad may comprise a diaper or an adult incontinent brief. The machine includes a pair of adhesive ejecting nozzles which direct adhesive onto the backing sheet of the pad as the sheet is moved therepast. The nozzles are intermittently directed to their respective sides, under control of a counting apparatus, so as to effectuate a pair of non-linear bands of adhesive onto the sheet. A pair of elastic bands are guided onto the sheet so as to attach themselves only in intermediate portions of the adhesive bands on the backing sheet. The nozzles are also withdrawable from the backing sheet when the sheet is not moving, so as to prevent their burn through. The nozzles movement is controlled by piston and cylinder units under solenoid regulation, which has received signals from the counting apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1986Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventors: Joseph A. Patent number: 4764234Abstract: The method of manufacturing an absorbent pad for utilization as a diaper or an adult incontinent brief, wherein a pair of continuous bands of adhesive are applied to the backing sheet of the pad, prior to assembly thereof. The nozzles eject adhesive onto a moving web comprising the backing sheet. The nozzles are shifted sideways during their extrusion of adhesive, from a first location to a second location, thus generating a pair of non-linear bands of adhesive on the backing sheet. The nozzles are again shifted from their second location to their original first location upon receipt of proper signals from a control mechanism. The elastic band is not shifted when the nozzles are, thus effectuating securement of the elastic bands only on the portions of the backing sheets where the adhesive was applied at the first location.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1986Date of Patent: August 16, 1988Assignee: The Kendall CompanyInventors: Donald M. Smits, Patrick J. Daley, Mary E. Buckley
