Patent number: 11425535Abstract: A method of navigating a vehicle with an electronic device using bilateration to a desired location is disclosed. The method includes the steps of receiving, with an electronic device, a plurality of signals emitted from a plurality of transmitting devices within a vicinity of the electronic device and determining a signal quality for the signals that are received based on 1) a RSSI or 2) a received signal power and a received signal gain, and signal propagation characteristics based on transmitting device information. The signal propagation characteristics is compared with either 1) the RSSI or 2) the received signal power and the received signal gain and at least two of the signals are designated having a highest signal quality, and are used to determine a distance that the electronic device is from the transmitting devices for locating the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2021Date of Patent: August 23, 2022Assignee: Kenmar CorporationInventors: Neal C. Patent number: 11265682Abstract: A method for determining a location of an electronic device using bilateration is disclosed. The electronic device receives a plurality of signals emitted from a plurality of transmitting devices within a vicinity of the electronic device. A signal quality is determined for the plurality of signals that are received based on 1) a received signal strength indicator or 2) a received signal power and a received signal gain, and signal propagation characteristics based on transmitting device information that comprise manufacturer and type of transmitting device. At least two of the plurality of signals are designated as having highest signal quality by combining the signal propagation characteristics with either 1) the received signal strength indicator or 2) the received signal power and the received signal gain. A distance that the electronic device is from the transmitting devices is determined using the two highest signal quality signals for locating the electronic device.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2021Date of Patent: March 1, 2022Assignee: Kenmar CorporationInventors: Neal C. Patent number: 10966060Abstract: A method of determining a location, using bilateration, of an electronic device that is spaced from transmitting devices is disclosed. The electronic device receives first and second signals of the same or different signal type from first and second transmitting devices, respectively, with an antenna. The electronic device determines a signal quality of each signal based on: 1) a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) or a received signal power and a received signal gain, and 2) signal propagation characteristics specific for the transmitting devices. The signals with the two highest signal qualities are used for location determination. The distance from the transmitting devices can be determined based on one or more of: a received signal power and signal gain for both signals, a transmitted power and signal gain of both signals, or location information associated with the transmitting devices.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2020Date of Patent: March 30, 2021Assignee: Kenmar CorporationInventors: Neal C. Patent number: 10743141Abstract: A method of determining a location, using bilateration, of an electronic device that is spaced from transmitting devices is disclosed. The electronic device receives first and second signals of the same or different signal type from first and second transmitting devices, respectively, with a tunable antenna. The electronic device determines a signal quality of each signal based on: 1) a received signal strength indicator (RSSI) or a received signal power and a received signal gain, and 2) signal propagation characteristics specific for the transmitting devices. The signals with the two highest signal qualities are used for location determination and the antenna is tuned for each of the signal types received. The distance from the transmitting devices can be determined based on one or more of: a received signal power and signal gain for both signals, a transmitted power and signal gain of both signals, or location information associated with the transmitting devices.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2018Date of Patent: August 11, 2020Assignee: Kenmar CorporationInventors: Neal Fairbanks, Frederick R.
