  • Patent number: 6701026
Abstract: A lighting normalisation method, apparatus and computer program product are disclosed. First, lighting parameters are estimated (110) optimally based on a shading model. After applying segmentation (120), each generated region is assigned are liability based on the stochastic model of that object. This reliability is used to distinguish (130) shadow from object detail. Regions are then further split and merged (140) according to these reliabilities. Finally, the lighting parameters of these regions are calculated and the object is reconstructed (150) to a normalised lighting condition. This technique can be used for an object recognition system, i.e., face recognition applications, as well as for image enhancement, image retrieval, machine vision and related regions.

  • Patent number: 6678389
Abstract: A steganographic method is disclosed to embed an invisible watermark into an image. It can be used for copyright protection, content authentication or content annotation. The technique is mainly based on K-L transform. Firstly a block and cluster step 106 and cluster selection step 108 are performed to enhance the optimization of K-L transform 110 for a given image. Then a watermark is embedded 114 into the selected eigen-clusters. ECC (Error Correction Code) can be employed to reduce the embedded code error rate. The proposed method is characterized by robustness despite the degradation or modification on the watermarked content. Furthermore, the method can be extended to video, audio or other multimedia especially for multimedia databases in which the stored multimedia are categorized by their contents or classes.

  • Patent number: 6674861
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a computer program product for adaptive, content-based watermark embedding of a digital audio signal (100) are disclosed. Corresponding watermark extracting techniques are also disclosed. Watermark information (102) is encrypted (120) using an audio digest signal, i.e. a watermark key (108). To optimally balance inaudibility and robustness when embedding and extracting watermarks (450), the original audio signal (100) is divided into fixed-length frames (1100, 1120, 1130) in the time domain. Echoes (S′[n], S″[n]) are embedded in the original audio signal (100) to represent the watermark (450). The watermark (450) is generated by delaying and scaling the original audio signal (100) and embedding it in the audio signal (100). An embedding scheme (104) is designed for each frame (1100, 1120, 1130) according to its properties in the frequency domain.

  • Patent number: 6507843
Abstract: Emerging patterns (EPs) are itemsets having supports that change significantly from one dataset to another. A classifier, CAEP, is disclosed using the following main ideas based on EPs: (i) Each EP can sharply differentiate the class membership of a (possibly small) fraction of instances containing the EP, due to the big difference between the EP's supports in the opposing classes; the differentiating power of the EP is defined in terms of the EP's supports and ratio, on instances containing the EP. (ii) For each instance t, by aggregating (124) the differentiating power of a fixed, automatically selected set of EPs, a score is obtained for each class (126). The scores for all classes are normalized (144) and the largest score determines t's class (146). CAEP is suitable for many applications, even those with large volumes of high dimensional data. CAEP does not depend on dimension reduction on data and is usually equally accurate on all classes even if their populations are unbalanced.
