    Abstract: The invention relates to a punched/stamped rivet including a rivet head and a shank connected to the head, for punching through at least two parts to be joined lying one on top of the other. The shank contains at least one shank groove that can be filled with the material of at least the lower part to be joined, viewed in the punching direction, during a subsequent stamping operation. To prevent corrosion between the punched/stamped rivet and the parts to be joined, the punched/stamped rivet consists of a ceramic.

    Abstract: A punching, stamping rivet has a frustum-shaped rivet head and a shank following thereafter. In order to create a rivet connection between two adjoining structural parts, the shank is punched through the structural parts forming a punched hole, and a groove is coined thereafter around the shank end in that structural part. In order to be able to process structural parts having varied thicknesses, several shank grooves are arranged on the shank, into which shank grooves material penetrates under plastic deformation during the coining of the groove.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for thermally supporting mechanical joints by means of punched rivets with a semi-hollow rivet or a solid rivet or by pounding. The method is characterized in that a local and time limited heating of the joint parts (1a, 1b) occurs by means of electric resistance heating in the future forming zone, whereby the heating is carried out by means of a hold-down device (5) and a matrix (4) or by elements (10/11, 12/13) arranged next to or elements (14, 15) arranged in front of said hold-down device and matrix. The heating is initiated at the start of or immediately before the joining process and is completed before the forming begins.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a tool for applying punched rivets, either full rivets or semi-tubular rivets. The tool having a blank holder for pretensioning assembly pieces, especially metal sheets; a rivet punch movable in an axial direction within a cylinder of the blank holder; and a die that is arranged opposite the blank holder and punch and provided with an annular prominence on an end face thereof and facing the rivet punch. A radial outside section of said end face concentrically surrounds said annular prominence, the outside section of said end face being displaceable relative to the annular prominence as a function of one of the penetration depth of the rivet into the assembly pieces and the force that the rivet punch exerts on the rivet.

In order to create a riveted joint between two sheets, the sheets are punched through by the shank. A groove is subsequently stamped around the shank end in the lower sheet, thus pressing material of the lower sheet into the groove. In order to increase the strength of the riveted joint, the shank groove is concavely constructed, whereby the section of the groove, which section is adjacent the rivet head, extends at an angle with respect to the shank axis, which angle is less than an angle at which the section adjacent the shank end extends with respect to the shank axis.

    Abstract: A rivet tool has a rivet pin which can be moved in a bore of a stamp die. The tool consists of a hydraulic cylinder having two pistons in which the first piston carries the rivet pin and the second piston carries the stamp die. The chamber between the pistons is connected with a variable volume pressure chamber. The cylinder chamber, which is facing the first piston, is connected with a pressure cylinder. After a rivet has been conveyed to beneath the rivet pin, a pressure cylinder is activated and a throttle interconnected between the chamber between the pistons and the pressure chamber. The stamping process is carried out hereby and the first piston is then pressed in direction of the second piston, whereby the first piston then lies on top of the second piston to effect the stamping process.
