  • Publication number: 20220338668
Abstract: A beverage machine and method in which a pod is positioned relative to a camera as a brew chamber moves to a closed position so the pod can be imaged prior to brew chamber closure. A pod stabilizer may urge a pod to be received by a pod receiver of the brew chamber before the brew chamber is closed and so as to properly position the pod for imaging.

  • Publication number: 20220330740
Abstract: A brewing system may include a fluid supply system, a chamber, and a fluid outlet. The fluid outlet may be configured to pierce a capsule containing a beverage ingredient formed of solid particles. The chamber may be configured to receive and hold solid particles from the capsule without inhibiting or restricting a flow path from the fluid supply system, through the chamber, and out of the fluid outlet. In some cases, a fluid flow through the chamber may gradually empty the chamber of solid particles.

  • Publication number: 20220330742
Abstract: A beverage machine arranged to image at least a portion of a capsule held by a beverage forming station of the machine. Parts of the beverage forming station may be movable between open and closed positions, and a portion of the capsule may be imaged while parts of the forming station are between open and closed positions. A capsule image may be captured only when forming station parts are moved toward the closed position, and image date discarded if the forming station is moved toward the open position prior to beverage formation.

  • Publication number: 20220330745
Abstract: A beverage forming method and system arranged to allow a user to adjust a volume and flow rate of liquid provided to a brew chamber so that a dispensed beverage is suitable for mixing with ice, e.g., to form an iced coffee beverage. In some cases, a user may provide input indicating that an iced beverage should be dispensed during a beverage dispensing operation. For example, after a dispensing operation is started to dispense a beverage having a particular volume, a user can adjust the beverage volume to be smaller and suitable for mixing with ice.

  • Publication number: 20220330744
Abstract: A beverage forming system having a controller arranged to provide a user interface with a user-adjustable indication of at least one brew parameter and to receive a command from a user to adjust the at least one brew parameter. The user-adjustable indication may include a slider track extending between the maximum and minimum values for a brew parameter and a slider element movable along the slider track where a position of the slider element on the slider track indicates a set value for the brew parameter. The controller may limit a command from the user to adjust the brew parameter to be between a minimum value for the brew parameter and a limited value that is below a maximum value for the brew parameter, or between a limited value that is above the minimum value and the maximum value for the brew parameter.

  • Publication number: 20220313008
Abstract: A beverage forming system in which a user interface is adapted to allow a user to control multiple different beverage machines that have different capabilities. A user may be associated with a plurality of different machines, and the user interface may be adapted to adjust display of information to the user and adjust options for controlling operation of a beverage machine based on the set of capabilities of the beverage machine. In some cases, only those stored sets of brew parameters that are compatible with a beverage machine may be displayed for user selection.

  • Publication number: 20220313004
Abstract: A method and apparatus for frothing a beverage, e.g., using a beverage preparing device and an ejector is described. Within a housing of the beverage preparing device, an air supply and steam supply may be arranged to deliver air and steam to an ejector outside of the housing. Beverage liquid may be frothed by providing steam and air, then steam alone to achieve frothing and heating. An ejector may supply a mixture of steam and air and a controller may be used to regulate the flow of steam and air through the ejector. The ejector may have a venturi that uses steam flow to create a low pressure region, which draws air into the ejector.

  • Publication number: 20220304502
Abstract: A beverage machine having a heater tank with a horizontally oriented heating element. The heating element may be arranged as a helical coil with a longitudinal axis arranged horizontally in the heater tank. A bottom wall of the heater tank may define a concave shape at the interior of the heater tank, and the heating element may be at least partially arranged within the concave shape, e.g., with a longitudinal axis of the coil extending along a central portion of the bottom wall. An inlet to the heater tank may be arranged at the bottom wall, e.g., in the central portion of the bottom wall, and may direct liquid at the heating element.

  • Patent number: 11426024
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sharing capsule image data and beverage preparation parameters, from one or more beverage preparation machines with a remote computer system via a network, such as the Internet, is disclosed. The remote computer system may process the capsule image data to determine characteristics of the capsule (e.g., a type of capsule, such as a brand, or beverage ingredients in the capsule), thereby relieving the beverage preparation from having to determine information about the capsule. The remote computer may track a user's consumption of capsules, may compare this value to the user's past capsule purchase history, and may determine if the user's supply of capsules is below a threshold value (e.g., below a week's worth of capsules).
