Abstract: A capped wheel nut formed of a cap and a nut insert which, when engaged, rotate together such as for removably engaging a wheel to a threaded stud of a hub of a vehicle. The capped wheel nut is rotated by a standard tool which applies a rotational force to the cap. Should the cap become disengaged from the nut insert, then the nut insert may be rotated by a standard tool which applies a rotational force to the nut insert in the absence of the cap.

Abstract: A decorative capped wheel nut for holding a wheel on a motor vehicle where the capped wheel nut is exposed to view and to the enviroment. The nut has first and second ends, the first end to engage the wheel of the automobile, and a circumferential edge intermediate the first and second ends. The cap includes a side section to cover the sides of the nut insert and a top section, joined to the side section, to cover the second end of the nut insert. The opposite end of the side section terminates in a free edge, flare or flange which contacts the circumferential edge of the nut insert. The cap and nut inset are welded together at the contact between the circumferential edge of the nut insert and the free edge of the cap.

Abstract: An improved wheel nut for securing a wheel to a vehicle hub or the like and for retaining a wheel cover on the wheel. The wheel nut preferably includes a nut body and a cap secured to the nut body and an axial gap is provided between the end of the cap and a portion of the nut body. A retaining ring is provided in the axial gap and the retaining ring extends radially outwardly beyond the wheel nut for retaining a wheel cover against the wheel and for precluding removal of the wheel cover unless the wheel nut is first removed.
