Abstract: Packing spacer sheets are automatically fed one at a time to a pick-up station from a stack, with selected sheets arranged to arrive in inverted condition so that all packing sheets are properly oriented into packing position. Sheets can be pulled from stack by a transfer carrier having gripping jaws with teeth that dig into rib structures on sheet and jaws can open to engage other portions of sheet and thus hold the sheet to assure all teeth are pulled out of sheet. Stack can be a horizontal nesting of generally vertically disposed sheets carried by narrow spaced belts stepped along on a low friction surface with fixed retainer to stop forward face of stack and permit front sheet to be pulled off.
Abstract: A molded pulp egg carton of the type having a pocketed bottom with a closeable cover integrally hinged to it wherein the cover has compact thickness, rigid firmness and densified hardness qualities obtained by being simultaneously dried and finish-formed between mating heated pressing molds, and the bottom has egg cushioning ribbons which have non-compacted consistency, resilient softness and an irregular fibrous feel and appearance obtained by being dried in a free space, defined by slots in a drying and pressing mold, without finish-forming pressure.
Abstract: A one-use-disposable type of foamed plastic container including a dished bottom and a dished top hinged to each other, the top having an inwardly flexible front wall the closeable edge of which includes a laterally outwardly directed locking tongue bifurcated by a deep notch into two protruding tongue sections, and the bottom having a skirt with an inwardly directed recess and a pair of slots in the recess to receive the dual tongue sections and lock the bottom and top together in the closed position.
Abstract: A nestable molded packing tray is disclosed having a compact arrangement of pockets for receipt of soft, delicate articles such as apples, tomatoes, etc. This tray contains post support means in the areas between closely adjacent pockets which materially increase the number of pockets which can be placed in a given tray. These support means coact with posts formed in the tray to space the trays when stacked and transmit vertical stacking forces to successive layers of trays in a manner which avoids damage to the packed articles. In one embodiment end flaps are added to the tray to provide additional support for successive layers of trays. The posts and post support means are molded into the trays in such a way that the trays will nest during shipment and may easily be stacked when ready for filling with articles to be packed.
Abstract: Packaging tray for meats and the like is molded with upstanding marginal lip and adjoining rib to provide trough around upper edge of its periphery, thus better keeping juices from leaking over tray edge when package is overwrapped. Gaps can be provided in rib to drain back juices from trough, and tray floor can have viewing windows in elevated portions to reduce juice leakage through the floor.
Abstract: A one-piece molded egg carton of the type having a tray-like bottom section with two parallel rows of downwardly dished egg receiving pockets, two articulated trough-shaped cover sections integrally hinged to the opposite sides of the bottom section for closing up and over the rows of pockets filled with eggs to provide a substantially uninterrupted flat upper cover surface for displaying advertising information and/or content information. The two cover sections are locked in the closed position by male locking projections which positively engage female locking ledges provided by apertures in the bottom section between the rows of egg pockets. A series of window openings are provided on each side of the carton for viewing the contents of all the egg pockets without opening the carton.
