  • Patent number: 5005605
Abstract: A conditioning valve for simultaneously reducing the pressure and temperature of steam. The invention comprises a valve body divided into first and second chambers, the first chamber having an inlet port for the introduction of superheated steam under high pressure into said conditioning valve and the second chamber having an outlet port for expelling desuperheated and depressurized steam out of said conditioning valve; an annular seat affixed to the interior of said valve between said first and second chambers; a hollow cylindrical cage slidably coupled with said seat, said cage permitting the flow of steam between said first and second chambers when said cage is in a first position and preventing said flow of steam when said cage is in a second position; and water stem means coupled to said cage for adjusting said cage between said first and second positions, said stem means having an outlet for injecting desuperheating water into said second chamber to be mixed with said steam.

  • Patent number: 5000851
Abstract: A strainer for preventing debris from entering a turbine. The strainer comprises a casing having an inlet conduit for introducing a flow medium into said strainer and an outlet conduit extending substantially perpendicular to said inlet conduit for expelling said flow medium, said outlet conduit having conically expanding interior side walls; an annular seal affixed to said casing between said inlet and outlet conduits for forming a seal between said inlet and outlet conduits; a bonnet attached to said casing, said bonnet having an upper bonnet section affixed to said casing and hollow cylindrical lower bonnet cage which mates with said annular seat, said hollow cylindrical lower bonnet cage opening into said outlet conduit and having a plurality of apertures so as to permit flow into said hollow cavity and out said outlet conduit and strainer screen means surrounding said hollow cylindrical lower bonnet, said screen means preventing debris from entering said apertures.

  • Patent number: 4967779
Abstract: A method of installing a valve seat in a valve body wherein the valve body is provided with an annular, radially inwardly extending rib defining a circular opening through the valve body and the seat member is an annular member having an annular extending web, a first annular flange extending radially outwardly from a first end of the web and a second annular flange extending radially outwardly from a second end of the annular web to thereby define an annular extending, outwardly opening channel which receives the rib in the body, the method comprising rigidly positioning the valve body forming a loop of flexible cord around the seat, the loop being at least partially received in the channel to produce first and second segments of the cord, positioning the seat partially in the body such that a portion of the rib which is received in a portion of the channel, extending the first and second segments of the cord through the valve body out of the second end of the valve body, simultaneously pulling the first and

  • Patent number: 4953276
Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a resilient valve seat into a valve body, the valve body being of a type having a radially inwardly projecting annular rib which defines a bore through the valve body, the valve seat being generally annular and having an annular web portion, a first annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a first end of the web portion and a second annular flange portion projecting radially outwardly from a second end of the web portion to define an annular, radially outwardly opening channel for receiving the rib, the apparatus including a frame which has an opening and having a plate for positioning a valve body adjacent the opening such that the bore in the valve body and the opening in the frame are in register, a plunger assembly slidably mounted in the frame, the plunger assembly having a mounting head and a plurality of circumferentially spaced grabbing elements secured to the mounting head, the grabbing elements including projections to engage one of the annular flange port

  • Patent number: 4941502
Abstract: A low pressure recirculation valve for cooling a centrifugal pump. The invention comprises a unitary valve casing divided into a first valve chamber and a second valve chamber, the casing having a first port for introducing fluids into said first chamber, and a second port for expelling fluids out of said second chamber, the first chamber having a recirculation port for redirecting fluids back to said centrifugal pump. A multiple piece check valve member situated between said first chamber and second chambers permits the flow of fluid from said first chamber to the second chamber and prevents the flow of fluid from said second chamber to said first chamber. A slidable valve stem coupled to said check valve member and extending through the first chamber moves the check valve member from an open to closed position. Means coupled to said valve stem biases the slidable valve stem and check valve means toward the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4899775
Abstract: An overlay for a valve disk of a butterfly or similar valve is formed from a strip of corrosion-resistant material. The strip is preferably profiled to conform to the edge of the disk and has an overall length less than the circumference of the disk. Both ends of the overlay are welded to the disk in closely spaced relation with the gap therebetween being filled by the weld metal. The disk also has a flow passage between the strip and its peripheral edge with first and second inlet ports leading from one disk face to intersect the flow passage. The inlet ports are closely spaced and lie on opposite sides of the weld. Sealant material introduced into one of the two ports flows in around the disk to form a complete seal between the disk and the overlay.
