Patent number: 8320605Abstract: An electro-acoustic transducer with a front part having an acoustically radiating surface, a supporting part that supports the front part and that extends from a peripheral region of the front part in a direction away from the acoustically radiating surface, and a reinforcing part that provides rigidity to the transducer. The reinforcing part extends from the supporting part to the front part such that a portion of the reinforcing part is spaced from the front part and/or the supporting part.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: KH Technology CorporationInventor: Mark Dodd

Patent number: 8094854Abstract: A loudspeaker comprises a horn waveguide having a waveguide surface, and a transducer located in, or adjacent to, a throat of the horn waveguide. The transducer has a substantially rigid convex dome-shaped acoustically radiating surface. A horn angle subtended between a longitudinal axis of the horn waveguide and the waveguide surface at the throat of the horn, is in the range 20 to 60 degrees. An intersection angle subtended between a plane tangential to the dome shape of the acoustically radiating surface and a plane tangential to the waveguide surface at a point where the dome shape or an extrapolation of the dome shape meets the waveguide surface or an extrapolation of the waveguide surface, is in the range 85 to 110 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: KH Technology CorporationInventor: Mark Dodd

Patent number: 7448467Abstract: An acoustic enclosure such as a loudspeaker (10) uses within the cabinet adsorbent material, and/or containment means (22) for the adsorbent material, which is at least partially hydrophobic. Preferably, the material is activated carbon treated to provide it with hydrophobic properties. Preferably, the adsorbent material is treated with a silicon-containing compound. This improves the acoustic compliance of the acoustic enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2002Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignees: KH Technology Corporation, Sutcliffe Speakman LimitedInventors: Julian Wright, Thomas Anthony Ryan

Patent number: 7016514Abstract: A loudspeaker assembly includes a chassis, a magnet assembly supported by the chassis and disposed at a rear side thereof, a moveable voice coil, a rear suspension, and a diaphragm connected to the voice coil and to the chassis. The assembly defines a voice coil gap receiving the voice coil. To improve the cooling of the assembly, particularly when the magnet assembly includes neodymium, the assembly is positioned at least substantially in front of the diaphragm, and the chassis is positioned outwardly of the magnet assembly. Heat generated by the coil, which could adversely affect the magnet, is dissipated by conduction to the chassis and by convection and radiation to ambient air. The rear suspension supports the voice coil, is secured to the assembly and is connected to the chassis only through the magnet assembly and through the diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2002Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: KH Technology CorporationInventors: Ian Stanley White, Richard Carl Klein

Publication number: 20040125971Abstract: A loudspeaker unit has, in combination, a pistonically driven diaphragm loudspeaker and a generally planar resonant panel loudspeaker, in which the plane of the resonant panel lies in the same orientation as an axis along which the diaphragm is pistonically driven. The resonant panel loudspeaker may be located behind the diaphragm loudspeaker, with the resonant panel loudspeaker functioning as a diffuse dipole, e.g. to generate surround sound reproduction, and the diaphragm loudspeaker located in the null of the dipole and functioning as an acoustic monopole, e.g. to generate imaged stereophonic sound reproduction.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2003Publication date: July 1, 2004Applicant: KH Technology CorporationInventor: Mark Dodd
