Patent number: 4645909Abstract: A toaster is mountable on a heat reflective overhead support which is adapted to be secured to a supporting surface such as the underside of a cabinet. The support is recessed from the front of the toaster so as to accomodate the lip of the cabinet. The toaster is provided with a shelf or grill which is movable between a first, heating position and a second, delivery position below and forward of the heating position. The grill is lockable in the heating position by a locking mechanism which comprises a releasable latch bar. An infrared (IR) sensor senses IR radiation produced by a food article supported on the grill. The IR sensor is part of an electrical circuit which controls the heater elements as well as an electromechanical element which releases the latch bar. When the latch bar is released, a spring assisted parallelogram linkage transfers the grill by gravity from the heating position to the delivery position.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1984Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Kidde Consumer Durables Corp.Inventors: Matthew A. Patent number: 4613070Abstract: The outer surface of a stainless steel utensil and one surface of an aluminum disk are cleaned and then separately heated at different temperatures. Thereafter, the disk is superimposed over the utensil and metallurgically bonded directly thereto by the application of pressure. Accumulated stress is relieved by cooling the bonded metal members to a temperature below 250.degree. F., followed by reheating to 700.degree.-950.degree. F.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1985Date of Patent: September 23, 1986Assignee: Kidde Consumer Durables Corp.Inventor: Al. S. Rummelsburg

Patent number: 4458140Abstract: An oven for cooking and/or defrosting food by recirculating heated air is provided with a temperature control means for measuring the actual internal temperature of the food and switching the oven off when the desired temperature is reached. The control includes a temperature sensing device which is insertable into the food for monitoring the actual internal food temperature and a circuit for monitoring the malfunctioning of the sensing device. The monitoring circuit is incorporated into the temperature control and is capable of switching the oven off when a malfunction is detected. The control circuit is also provided with a bypass circuit to allow the oven to be operated without the temperature sensor.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1982Date of Patent: July 3, 1984Assignee: Kidde Consumer Durables Corp.Inventor: Irving R.
