  • Patent number: 4501251
Abstract: A booster pump for a secondary fuel circulation system of a diesel engine adapted to be connected with the fuel pump of the primary circulation system by removing a screw plug associated with a piston chamber of the fuel pump in order to permit the booster pump to be threadedly engaged in place thereof by means of a threaded member formed on the housing of the booster pump. A spring actuated piston of the booster pump is thus brought into active connection with a piston of the fuel pump by way of a plunger protruding from the housing of the booster pump.

  • Patent number: 4420748
Abstract: In the disclosed display, the symbol segments of a passive cell, such as a liquid crystal cell, are each connected to one of two leads through an elastic connector layer having mutually insulated conductors running through the layer transverse thereto. According to an embodiment of the invention, the leads are on a printed circuit board and a control bus connects one of the leads to a control unit that operates the cell and a second bus connects the other of each of the leads to a monitor unit that compares the potential at each segment with the potential at the control unit. This checks the connections between the control unit and each segment.

  • Patent number: 4411239
Abstract: A cooling system for the fuel used in a diesel engine includes a closed fuel injection circuit and a fuel cooling circuit. The fuel injection circuit receives fuel through a suction pipe from a fuel tank and provides a continuously circulating flow of fuel. The fuel cooling circuit flows fuel from and back into the fuel tank. A heat exchanger is connected to both of the circuits and flows the fuel from the fuel injection circuit in indirect heat transfer relation with the fuel in the cooling circuit for removing heat from the fuel in the injection circuit.

  • Patent number: 4403335
Abstract: An arrangement for the self-wiping of contacts in multidigit interrogatory counters where the data are read through code wheels to contact wheels and to mechanical sliding contacts which sense the contact wheels. The improvement includes the arranging of the rotatably-mounted contact wheels to be mounted, independently from the frictional effect caused by the counting procedure during rotation on a movable shaft. Eccentrics control the movement of the movable shaft which make it possible to move the contact wheels in an oscillating manner against contact springs. This is accomplished in the overlap region for sensing the individual numbers.

  • Patent number: 4401025
Abstract: A printing unit is guided along a straight line in parallel relation with the printing plane of a printing support. A device is arranged to pivot the printing unit between at least two printing supports spaced angularly apart. The device includes a coupling assembly interconnecting the printing unit with a drive member. A part of the coupling assembly includes a slotted crosshead or plate in which rollers move through branch slots disposed angularly to one another. Due to the guidance afforded the printing unit as it is pivoted between different angularly spaced printing supports, it moves along a curve significantly flatter than the arc of a circle on which the printing planes of the printing supports are located.

  • Patent number: 4389653
Abstract: In the disclosed recording device, variable values are measured and recorded on a recorder carrier by moving the record carrier along a given direction. A number of recorders form a row and define separate tracks along the direction when the record carrier moves and trace lines along the tracks when actuated. The recorders are divided into a first group and a second group while suitable means measure the variable values. An energizing arrangement energizes a different recorder of the first group for each one of a number of ranges of measured values and energizes a different recorder of the second group for each one of a number of increments of measured values within each range. Each recorder of each second group is energized for the same corresponding increment regardless of the particular range.

  • Patent number: 4369704
Abstract: A printing mechanism, particularly for a counter device which records distances, is formed with a pair of sets of print wheels with a housing defining a slot through which a voucher may be passed to have imprinted thereon information contained on the print wheels. Platens are arranged to press the voucher against the print wheels and platen carriers which are rotatably mounted have the platens eccentrically mounted thereon. Overcenter springs engage the platen carriers, and after the carriers have been rotated through a predetermined angle, the overcenter springs drive the carriers through a further angle of rotation during which the platens are pressed against the print wheels during the printing process. The angle through which the platen carrier is initially rotated to load the overcenter spring is less than the angle through which the platen carrier is driven by the loaded overcenter spring.

  • Patent number: 4362927
Abstract: A preselection counter having a switch-off counter which is adapted to actuate a desired function when a quantity of this function determined by a preset value has been reached includes presettable indicating means having number rollers adapted to have the preset value set therein and to retain this setting through repeated cycles of operation of the switch-off counter. The presettable indicating means enable continuous display of the preset value during operation of the counter with the preset value being transferred from the number rollers of the switch-off counter by a sensing wheel mechanism which is operatively interposed therebetween and which may be repeatedly reset to the preset value on the preset counter after each cycle of operation of the switch-off counter without requiring changes in the preset value in the presettable indicating means.

  • Patent number: 4354173
Abstract: An arrangement which provides an indication of the economy of motor vehicle operation includes a number of sensors for detecting different vehicle operating factors including engine speed, distances travelled by the vehicle, and the position of the engine throttle. An acceleration measuring device is coupled to the distance sensor to determine the vehicle acceleration. Circuitry coupled to the sensors including the acceleration measuring device provides operating condition values in the form of code word elements. This circuitry includes a first comparator for setting a first set of threshold values so that the code word elements provided by the first comparator each correspond to a certain engine speed range. The circuitry also includes a second comparator operative to set a second set of threshold values so that the code word elements provided by the second comparator each correspond to a certain acceleration range.

  • Patent number: 4291313
Abstract: Recording apparatus includes a planar support for supporting a flat recording medium such as one or more circular graph sheets. At least one recording instrument, e.g., a wire pen, is arranged to be movable relative to the support to provide a recording on the recording medium when the instrument is moved into contact with the medium and the medium is driven at a given rate. A lid is provided for covering the recording medium, the lid being arranged for pivotal movement about a hinge axis between open and closed positions relative to the support. The lid also serves to move the recording instrument into contact with the recording medium when it is in the closed position, and to lift the recording instrument out of contact from the recording medium when in the open position. A movable, guide part contacts the recording instrument to lift the instrument out of contact from the recording medium when the lid is moved to the open position.

  • Patent number: 4251162
Abstract: A perforated form band is introduced into a form printer through an input passage or shaft. The passage is formed by spaced walls and is pivotally mounted on the printer for movement between an input position and a working position. In the input position, a form band is introduced into and aligned within the input passage. In one embodiment, the leading end of the form band contacts transversely extending stop surfaces, while in another the leading end of the form band is aligned with an indicating mark and the perforations on the form band engage with projections in the input passage. With the form band aligned, the input passage is moved into the working position engaging the perforations in the form band on pins projecting outwardly from sprocket wheels which drive the form band through the printer. In the working position of the input passage, the form band no longer contacts the stop surfaces or engages the projections used in the aligning operation.

  • Patent number: 4228519
Abstract: A method for electronically monitoring parking lots and an electronic monitoring system for carrying out such method are disclosed. The method and system employs the use of a central control unit and a plurality of parking meters connected to the central control unit. The central control unit generates the time of day which is sent to and electronically stored in each parking meter. Depending on the number of coins inserted in a meter, an amount of time corresponding to the coins is calculated based on a given tariff. This time is added to the time of day to determine a time of departure. This time is indicated on indicating means provided at each meter. The actual time of day and the paid-for parking time are repeatedly compared until they are equal. At that time, the indicating means is cleared. A microprocessor, a variable storage element and a fixed storage element are provided at each meter to effect the necessary calculations and storage required. Additional features are also disclosed.
