Abstract: The above objects are achieved with a compact neuro-otologic testing device and method of utilizing the same according to the present invention. The device according to the present invention provides an image producing laser with a right hand, servo controlled galvanometric based XY interface. The high quality closed loop servo control system that can drive the target (i.e. the laser image) in excess of 1,000,000 degrees/second2 and at velocities in excess of 12000 degrees/second. The bandwidth of the XY interface is greater than 400 Hz, providing high image reproducibility. The repeatability and position accuracy of the target is +?3 arc-seconds and the field of range of the XY interface are about 60 degrees (i.e. about 60 degrees horizontal and 60 degrees vertical).
Abstract: A tensioning device that is inexpensive to manufacture and is useful for various rope tensioning applications. The rope locking device can be used anywhere along a length of rope that is being used to hold, tie down, or secure a load or item.
Abstract: A hydraulic machine includes a support structure and a rotating group rotatably mounted relative to the support structure. The rotating group includes a shaft and a cylinder barrel with a plurality of circumferentially spaced cylinder bores. Reciprocal pistons extend from the shaft with each one of the pistons extending into an associated one of the cylinder bores. A joining assembly joins the shaft and the cylinder barrel so that the shaft and the cylinder barrel rotate together. The hydraulic machine further includes at least one oil dam associated with the rotating group and adapted to trap hydraulic fluid used for lubricating portions of the joining assembly.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for operating an activated sludge plant having a plurality of tandem aeration zones, each receiving mixed liquor from an upstream zone or an upstream source and discharging a mixed liquor to a downstream zone or a downstream process includes a control which determines a parameter at a downstream one of the zones. The parameter is representative of a concentration of ammonia in the mixed liquor in the downstream one of the zones and may be used to control at least one upstream zone. A value of airflow to one of the zones may be determined and used to determine a demand for dissolved oxygen in the mixed liquor in that zone as a function of airflow to that zone. An elevated level of demand may be used to indicate a dump of commercial waste having a high BOD demand. A depressed level of demand may be used to indicate the presence of chemicals that inhibit bacterial respiration.
Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein generally solve a stiction problem in switching devices by using a series of pulses of force which take the switch from being strongly adhered to a landing electrode to the point where it is only weakly adhered. Once in the low adhesion state, the switch can then be pulled away from contact with a lower force provided by either the spring constant of the switch and/or the electrostatic forces resulting from low voltages applied to nearby electrodes.
Abstract: An intervertebral disc prosthesis comprises first and second articulated elements wherein one the elements includes an articulated tongue and the other of the elements includes a groove adapted to receive the tongue. The first and second elements are adapted to be moveable with respect to each other in various planes.

Abstract: Methods for preparing a tricalcium phosphate coarse particle composition are provided. Aspects of the methods include converting an initial tricalcium phosphate particulate composition to hydroxyapatite, sintering the resultant hydroxyapatite to produce a second tricalcium phosphate composition and then mechanically manipulating the second tricalcium phosphate composition to produce a tricalcium phosphate coarse particle composition. The subject methods and compositions produced thereby find use in a variety of applications.
