Abstract: A hydrogel bead for intra-articular supplement made by: providing a solution of alginate, providing a solution with chitosan having a Mw between lower than 60 kD, mixing the solution of alginate and the solution of chitosan, wherein the mixed solution comprises between 0.5 and 0.7% (w/v) of chitosan and between 1 and 1.4% alginate (w/v), introducing droplets of the mixed solution into a solution with Ca2+ or Sr2+ cations and isolating polymerised beads from the solution with cations.

Abstract: The invention relates to a new biocompatible, biodegradable removable and repositionable adhesive composition, its preparation method and various uses thereof, including its use as surgical aid. The invention also discloses a matrix comprising such composition, such as e.g. a solid support covered, impregnated or saturated by said adhesive composition. Adhesive compositions according to the invention comprise at least one chitin and/or chitosan containing material. In a particular embodiment said adhesive composition further comprises at least one adhesive-enhancing agent whereby said agent is provided in a granular form, and preferably is a chitin and/or chitosan containing material as defined herein. The present adhesive composition and matrix comprising such composition can be used as gluing composition, in particular in wound-healing and/or surgical applications.
Abstract: In a first aspect, the present invention relates to a method for isolating cell wall derivatives from fungal or yeast biomass. According to this method, chitin polymers or chitin-glucan copolymers can be obtained. In another aspect, the invention relates to a method for preparing chitosan from chitin. The invention further relates to chitin polymers, chitin-glucan polymers and chitosan polymers obtainable by the methods according to the invention. Moreover, the invention relates to the use of chitin polymers, chitin-glucan copolymers or chitosan polymers obtainable by the method according to the present invention in medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural, nutraceutical, food, textile, cosmetic, industrial and/or environmental applications.
