  • Patent number: 4572474
Abstract: An assembly for mounting a driven machine and drive includes a support frame on a foundation. The drive is secured to a set of mounting plates which are disposed directly on the support frame. The driven machine is carried by a set of mounting units each of which comprises a pair of spaced carrier elements and a mounting plate arranged between the carrier elements. The carrier elements and the respective mounting plates have cooperating guide means which enable the mounting plates to be adjusted relative to the support frame. In mounting the driven machine and its drive, the two are roughly aligned by shifting the mounting units and/or the mounting plates for the drive on the support frame. Once the driven machine and its drive have been roughly aligned, the mounting units as well as the mounting plates for the drive are anchored in the foundation and welded to the support frame.

  • Patent number: 4563801
Abstract: The inlet and/or outlet edge of a blank which is to be converted into the vane of an impeller for use in a centrifugal pump is reinforced by providing an exposed surface of the blank with a pair of contiguous recesses which extend along the edge and the deeper of which is immediately adjacent to the edge. The recesses are then filled with metallic armoring material by cladding so that some of the surplus extends beyond the recesses and/or beyond the edge. In the next step, the surplus of armoring material is removed by one or more material removing tools, together with a portion of the blank in the region of the edge so that the exposed surface is provided with a fresh edge which is defined by the armoring material.

  • Patent number: 4468176
Abstract: A turbine driven pump wherein a multi-stage centrifugal pump unit is coaxial with and mounted on a common shaft with a turbine unit. The two units are connected to each other by a low-pressure section which defines a hydrostatic seal between the interior of the pump unit and the interior of the turbine unit. The inlet and outlet of the turbine unit are connected with each other by a conduit containing a regulating valve, and the inlet of the pump unit is connected with chambers at the outer sides of relief pistons disposed at the high-pressure sides of the two units. The diameters of the relief pistons are proportional to pressures in the high-pressure portions of the respective units. The inlet of the pump unit is coaxial with the outlet of the turbine unit.

  • Patent number: 4436950
Abstract: The passage in a wall which separates the interior of the housing of a glandless submersible motor pump from the surrounding atmosphere is normally sealed by an annular seat which is placed against the end face of a muff forming a detachable part of the wall, and by a temperature- and pressure-resistant ceramic sleeve which surrounds an elongated metallic conductor and normally bears against the seat owing to the pressure differential between the interior of the housing and the surrounding atmosphere. If the sleeve is destroyed, a normally confined plunger of the conductor bears directly against the seat to prevent escape of fluid from the pump housing. That end portion of the conductor which extends into the housing is surrounded by one or more layers of insulating tape and by a tubular sheath which is shrunk onto the tape and exhibits at least some thermal-shock-absorbing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4435126
Abstract: A centrifugal pump impeller, particularly for use in pumps for effecting forced circulation of contaminated fluids in the primary circuits of nuclear reactor plants, has an impeller body which is surrounded by a cylindrical wear ring. The wear ring has an exposed end face and a second end face which is adjacent to a circumferential shoulder of the impeller body. The second end face of the ring is formed with axially parallel bores or slots which extend toward but short of the first end face, and the shoulder has recesses which are aligned with the open ends of the adjacent bores or slots. The first end face of the ring is formed with markers in the form of notches which register with the corresponding bores or slots and allow for accurate positioning of a boring tool which is used to bore out the ring after a certain period of wear to facilitate its separation from the impeller body and replacement with a fresh wear ring.

  • Patent number: 4433825
Abstract: The casing of a centrifugal pump which is subjected to pronounced external stresses is secured to a foundation or to a base plate by one or more rings which surround the casing and receive stresses therefrom. Each ring has lugs which transmit the stresses to the support; one surface of each such lug can be located in a plane which includes the axis of the pump casing and each of these surfaces abuts a complementary surface of the support. If the casing is surrounded by two rings, each ring is located at a different axial end of the casing. One of the rings can be shrunk onto the casing, and the other ring then allows the casing to move angularly and/or axially therein or therewith but relative to the foundation or base plate so as to compensate for dimensional changes in response to temperature changes. Instead of being shrunk onto the casing, the one ring can be secured thereto by one or more keys, wedges and/or pins.

  • Patent number: 4416586
Abstract: A submersible motor pump assembly has a motor which is installed at a level below the pump. The shaft which is driven by the motor and rotates the impeller or impellers of the pump is spacedly surrounded by a tubular member of a thermal barrier in the region between the upper end of the motor housing and the lower end of the pump casing. The solid impurities, especially magnetizable particles, which are circulated by the pump tend to penetrate into the motor housing by way of the clearance between the tubular member and the shaft, and the penetration of such impurities into the motor housing is prevented by an apparatus which conveys a stream of liquid from the discharge nozzle of the pump casing into the clearance and contains a filter with several electromagnets which intercept magnetizable particles and allow a clean stream of flushing liquid to flow into the clearance.

  • Patent number: 4406583
Abstract: A centrifugal pump comprises a casing which has two volutes disposed substantially diametrically opposite each other in such a way that the end of the first volute is adjacent to the start of the second volute. The outer diameter of the casing approximates or equals the diameter of the first volute in the region of the end of the first volute. This contributes to compactness of the casing. The volutes surround a rotary impeller or a guide wheel which is installed in the casing downstream of the impeller. Each volute extends along an arc of at most 180 degrees. The casing can have one or more elongated channels extending from the end of the first volute, along the second volute, and to a common outlet nozzle for both volutes.

  • Patent number: 4386780
Abstract: An apparatus which removes contaminants from the liquid in a centrifugal pump has a housing connected with the pump shaft and having a cleaning chamber connected with a first space containing contaminated liquid and a second chamber connected with a second space for cleaned liquid as well as with the first chamber. The second space communicates with the first space by way of a narrow clearance which further communicates with an outlet of the first chamber. The first chamber can contain a disc separator and its outlet is positioned in such a way that, when the housing rotates, liquid entering the first chamber from the first space is relieved of impurities and flows into the second chamber where it can undergo additional cleaning prior to entering the second space. The contaminants return into the first space via outlet and the clearance, and those contaminants which are contained in the liquid entering the second space are returned into the first space by way of the aforementioned clearance.
