Patent number: 6742237Abstract: A method for manufacturing a metallic artificial nail for attachment to a natural nail includes the step of heat-stamping a metallic substrate having a heat-activatable layer to a surface of a contoured nail body whereby the metallic substrate is bonded to the nail body. Also provided is a die set for heat-stamping a metallic substrate onto a contoured nail body to form a metallic artificial nail which includes a die including a first contoured surface substantially corresponding to the contour of a bottom surface of the nail body for supporting the nail body in the die set and a punch including a second contoured surface positioned opposite the first contoured surface. The second contoured surface substantially corresponds to the contour of a top surface of the nail body for conforming the metallic substrate to the contour of the top surface of the nail body during heat-stamping.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2002Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: KMC Exim Corp.Inventor: Sung Yong Chang

Publication number: 20030209250Abstract: An artificial nail for attachment to a natural nail has a nail body including a proximal bed portion sized and shaped to be attachable to the top surface of the natural nail, a distal tip portion opposite the bed portion and a transition portion between the tip portion and the bed portion. Either the tip portion or the bed portion has a first color in contrast to the other portion for obscuring the natural nail tip when the artificial nail is attached to the natural nail and the color contrast between the portions gradually fades within the transition portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2003Publication date: November 13, 2003Applicant: KMC Exim Corp.Inventor: Sung Yong Chang

Publication number: 20020185144Abstract: An artificial fingernail includes an opaque crescent-shaped lunula portion at a proximal end thereof, an opaque nail tip portion at a distal end thereof opposite the lunula portion, a substantially clear and transparent nail bed portion between the lunula portion and the tip portion and a dividing line between the nail bed portion and the nail tip portion. The nail bed portion substantially corresponds to the nail bed of a natural fingernail and is applied over a natural fingernail. The nail tip portion includes a continuous opaque decoration which obscures a natural nail tip when the artificial fingernail is applied over a natural fingernail. The nail bed portion is substantially clear and transparent allowing the natural nail bed to be visible therethrough.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2002Publication date: December 12, 2002Applicant: KMC EXIM CORP.Inventors: Sung Yong Chang, Yong Jin Chang

Patent number: 6394100Abstract: An ornamental accessory for a fingernail comprises an overlay having a reusable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer pre-applied to a bottom surface thereof for application and bonding to the wearer's natural nail, and a method of making the same. The adhesive formulation is a copolymer of acrylic ester and vinyl acetate formed from an aqueous acrylic copolymer emulsion. The bottom surface of the overlay to which the adhesive is applied is textured to enhance adhesion of the adhesive layer. A method for forming a pre-glued ornamental fingernail accessory includes the steps of forming an overlay having the shape and size of a natural fingernail and applying an aqueous copolymer emulsion, as described above, to a bottom surface of the overlay. The emulsion is allowed to cure whereby a substantial portion of the water in the emulsion is evaporated to form a reusable pressure-sensitive adhesive layer fixed to the overlay.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: KMC Exim Corp.Inventor: Sung Yong Chang
