  • Patent number: 4606188
Abstract: A connecting chain link with two loops for accommodating chain links of attached chain lengths comprises two main link parts identical in shape and dimensions and assembled along a first contact surface and a second contact surface which is complementary to the first one, and a limiting surface in the central portion of the link. The contact surfaces extend between an origin at the outer periphery of the link and close to a transverse axis thereof, and a termination at the inner periphery of one of the loops. The contact surfaces consist of a plurality of differently oriented surface sections and are so shaped as to form a plurality of intermeshing lug and recess means which effectively oppose tension stresses in the longitudinal direction and all stresses in the transverse directions, the latter ones particularly efficiently at the locations of said origins.

  • Patent number: 4548247
Abstract: A crude curved log with an essentially circular cross-section is before a first machining cycle in a working machine fixed in a rotary condition where the longitudinal sectional plane comprising the maximum curvature is horizontal, and is then measured and processed along curved paths determined in a computer unit on the basis of the measured curvature. Thereafter the central block, thus obtained is processed, in a second cycle along paths having the same curvature as the first cycle by utilizing the same command signals as in the first cycle are used, possibly with a correction for changed lateral position of the block.

  • Patent number: 4510981
Abstract: The self-centering feeding device (20') for elongated objects such as logs includes a conveyor means (30) carried by a parallel mechanism having a vertical stationary part. The parallel mechanism is connected to a mechanical engagement means (26) and is controlled by a driving means (28) activated when an object on the conveyor means reaches a predetermined position, and is then kept activated the whole time during which the object is fed-through. The object is thus firmly clamped between the conveyor means and the engagement means and has no possibility to rotate about its longitudinal axis. The conveyor means may therefore be much shorter than the object. The invention is suitable for general application, but in particular for application in the log processing industry.

  • Patent number: 4506792
Abstract: In waist articulated terrain vehicles, especially forest machines, with a wheeled forward section (1), a rear section (5), and a driver's cab (11), driver comfort can be substantially increased by the cab (11) being so mounted on the vehicle that it is substantially unaffected by the tilting movements of the forward section about an axis in the travelling direction thereof, simultaneously as it is adapted for accompanying the forward section in its steering movements.

  • Patent number: 4505396
Abstract: In a working vehicle including a crane (21) for handling loads and a driver's cab (11), both crane and cab are rotatably mounted on the vehicle, each about its vertical axis, and controlled such that a turning angle .beta. of the crane results in a turning angle .alpha. of the cab, .alpha. being an optional function of .beta., e.g. half of .beta.. The driver can thus carry out all the working operations desired for the crane without having to turn his head uncomfortably.

  • Patent number: 4485861
Abstract: A flat reducing and sawing installation for processing tapering logs includes a reducing section and a sawing section through which logs pass in sequence. The reducing section includes two reducing disks which can each be moved outwards by respective positioning devices. The sawing section includes at least two laterally movable saw blades. The position of the reducing disks is controlled by an electronic evaluation and control unit on the basis of profile data fed in about the log, which indicates that at least one of the disks is about to grind sufficient material from one side of the log to form a plank of a minimum acceptable thickness, length and width. Under these circumstances, the control unit moves the appropriate reducing disk outwardly by at least the minimum acceptable thickness to allow the outermost saw of the sawing section to saw off the resulting plank.

  • Patent number: 4440203
Abstract: An arrangement for feeding blocks of timber into a cutting machine has a stationary rear pair of lateral guide rollers immediately in front of the saw blades, a laterally displaceable front pair of lateral guide rollers and a middle lateral guide device, which may be a pair of lateral guide rollers. The middle lateral guide device is at half the distance between the front and the rear pair of lateral guide rollers. The front pair of lateral guide rollers is arranged on a support arm which can swing on a swivel point which is in front of the rear pair of lateral guide rollers at a distance of six tenths of a distance between the front and rear pair of lateral guide rollers. The arrangement is suitable for curved sawing both in sawing machines and in reducing and reducing sawing machines.

  • Patent number: 4342241
Abstract: A band sawing machine has an endless saw blade entrained over two saw pulleys and two blade guides. Lateral displacements of the saw blade to an equilibrium position, as occur during a sawing operation, are countered by a corrective tilt of a planar front face on one or both of the blade guides. The saw blade, by means of tensioning, is constantly pressed against the front face, or faces of the blade guides.

  • Patent number: 4336731
Abstract: A band sawing machine has an endless saw blade entrained over two saw pulleys and two blade guides. Lateral displacements of the saw blade from a preset position occurring during a sawing operation are measured by a position sensor. The position sensor controls an actuator which applies a corrective twist or lateral movement to at least one of the blade guides to return the blade to the present position.

  • Patent number: 4334606
Abstract: An allocating means for sorting or allocating of side boards individually immediately after sawing of logs into a main yield and an number of side boards. The allocating means comprises a longitudinal conveyor (10) for the main yield and movable support rolls (11, 12) for the side boards. Below the support rolls there are disposed stops (16, 17) for the side boards and in level with the stops there are disposed arresting means in the form of suction plates (18, 19) adapted to first hold one side board of each pair whereas the other one of that pair is permitted to fall into a compartment of a cross-conveyor, and then to free also that second side board of the pair so that it falls into a further compartment of the cross-conveyor for individual transport to a place for further handling.

  • Patent number: 4330249
Abstract: A continuously working press for forming a continuously stringer (7) of compressible material, such as wood chips. For the purpose of pressing the stringer (7) in a vertical direction, the press includes upper and lower continuously moving endless press chains (8 and 9) formed by mutually linked support elements. For effecting active side-pressing of the stringer (7) an array of side-pressing blocks (19) are arranged on each side of the press chains (8, 9) and which blocks are suitably entrained for movement in the circular motion of the upper or lower chain. The side-pressing blocks (19) are displaceable in the transverse direction of the press chains (8, 9) and are guided during said displacement by guide means (23) which are conveyed by the support plates forming the press chains (8, 9).

  • Patent number: 4257461
Abstract: The total force required for feeding a tree through a delimbing machine is provided simultaneously by the combined actions of feed rolls and a longitudinally displaceable beam. The feed rolls are mounted on the frame of the machine and are movable towards and away from the tree trunk that is to be delimbed. The beam has gripping means for inserting the tree between the feed rolls. In one embodiment of the invention, at least one of the feed rolls is formed in two adjacent sections with one of the sections having projections on the periphery thereof and the other of the sections being provided with a resilient surface in order to minimize damage to the wood.

  • Patent number: 4213928
Abstract: A chipboard beam made of glue coated chips has top and bottom layers extending for the full length of the beam consisting of elongated chips, that may be for example as much as 5 cm in length oriented with their fibers in the longitudinal direction of the beam. The middle layer is made of flat chips having random fiber orientations in a vertical plane parallel to the long dimension of the beam. The chips are glued together under heat and pressure in a press, with the result that there is great coherence both between and within the layers. The pressing is done with the wider cross-sectional dimension of the beam horizontal, so that at this stage the layers of chips are side-by-side longitudinal stringers.
