Patent number: 9244745Abstract: A plurality of server computers connected to computer network processes tasks that are unequally distributed among the server computers. A server sends a task-available message over the computer network to the remaining server computers to request assistance. The received task-available message is processed by some of the servers while others of the servers do not process the message because they are too busy. The servers that process the message respond by requesting a task from the message sending server.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2011Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Ron Barzel, Felix S. Publication number: 20160016416Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods of directly determining the type of receiver media loaded in a thermal printer by measurements taken from the receiver media itself. In one embodiment, a tri-color emitter and detector combination work in conjunction to determine the intensity of light transmitted through the receiver media. The type of receiver media may be determined by the voltage response or transmission profile generated by the receiver in response to being illuminated by the tri-color emitter.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2015Publication date: January 21, 2016Applicant: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Robert Fredric Mindler, Young No, Gregory James Garbacz, Dennis W. Publication number: 20150379348Abstract: An adaptable eye artifact identification and correction method is disclosed. Eye artifacts are identified and classified based on color, severity, shape, eye location, and cause. Based on this classification, an eye artifact correction algorithm is selected from a series of eye artifact correction techniques. For minor artifacts, simple color correction techniques are deployed to restore the iris color and to drive the pupil to once again appear black. For severe eye artifacts face detection and metadata analysis are utilized to search the user's image collection for recent images of the subject without the eye artifact condition. Once located, these images provide eye color and shape information for use to replace the pixels expressing the eye artifact condition. The non-artifact eye images are used to provide the appropriate eye color and shape to correct the eye artifact condition for more severe eye artifacts.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2014Publication date: December 31, 2015Applicant: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: James Andrew Whritenor, Joseph Anthony Manico, Alexander C. Patent number: 9217980Abstract: A method for preventing damage to a document by a document transport apparatus provides a member for receiving the document as a stack of sheets to be serial fed to a feeding station. At least two spaced-apart microphones are disposed at the feeding station and responsive to audio to produce signals representing audio energy received by each microphone respectively. The energy received from each microphone is compared to determine if it is ambient noise or if it indicates that two attached sheets are being fed or a single sheet is being damaged. The document transport apparatus is shut off to prevent damage to documents when it has been determined that two attached sheets are being fed or that a single sheet is being damaged.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2011Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Swapnil Sakharshete, David M. Publication number: 20150363409Abstract: A system that is capable of generating a multiplicity of representations from a set of multimedia objects, each with a potentially different form, is disclosed. In addition, a system that is capable of generating representations that include thematic groupings in addition to the traditional purely sequential groupings is disclosed. Analysis of metadata to generate derived metadata creates a more comprehensive repository of information about media assets. Using the abundance of metadata, embodiments of the methods disclosed teach uniquely grouping and prioritizing media assets into a storyboard, which is in turn mapped onto view-based representations based on a selected output modality.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2015Publication date: December 17, 2015Applicant: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Mark D. Patent number: 9213923Abstract: A method of calibrating a printer using a reflective scanner is disclosed. Because the reflective scanner used for calibration may only be able to accurately measure a limited density range that is less than the full density range of the printer, some information from the reflective scanner is disregarded or deemphasized during the calibration process. A calibration page is printed and scanned. Lookup tables (LUTs) that comprise the printer calibration values are updated based on adjustments calculated from the scanner for density regions where the scanner produces relatively accurate measurements, but updated based on the preexisting settings for density regions where the scanner produces relatively inaccurate measurements. In transitions regions between accurate and inaccurate regions, the LUTs are adjusted based on a combination of measurements from the scanner and the preexisting settings.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2014Date of Patent: December 15, 2015Assignee: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Kevin Craig Scott, Stuart Gerard Evans, Steven R. Patent number: 9122921Abstract: A method for detecting a document boundary in a captured digital image depicting a hardcopy document on a background. Each color channel of the captured digital image is analyzed to determine a corresponding busyness metric representing a complexity level of the image data. The color channel having a lowest busyness level is selected and analyzed to detect a document boundary of the depicted hardcopy document. The detected document boundary can be used to perform a perspective correction process to determine a corrected digital image where the depicted document has a substantially rectangular boundary.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2014Date of Patent: September 1, 2015Assignee: Kodak Alaris Inc.Inventors: Louis James Beato, John J. Patent number: 9111547Abstract: A method for determining a semantic concept associated with an audio signal captured using an audio sensor. A data processor is used to automatically analyze the audio signal using a plurality of semantic concept detectors to determine corresponding preliminary semantic concept detection values, each semantic concept detector being adapted to detect a particular semantic concept. The preliminary semantic concept detection values are analyzed using a joint likelihood model based on predetermined pair-wise likelihoods that particular pairs of semantic concepts co-occur to determine updated semantic concept detection values. One or more semantic concepts are determined based on the updated semantic concept detection values. The semantic concept detectors and the joint likelihood model are trained together with a joint training process using training audio signals, at least some of which are known to be associated with a plurality of semantic concepts.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2012Date of Patent: August 18, 2015Assignee: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Alexander C.
