Patent number: 10150632Abstract: A system and method of detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system is disclosed. One or more metal detectors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the medium being transported. Signals from the metal detectors are sent to a system processor, which analyzes the signals, and produces proximity, duration, and/or intensity values therefrom. One or more microphones may also be included which detect the sound created as the medium is being transported. The processor computes sound values from the microphone signals, and analyzes the computed sound values along with the proximity, duration, and/or intensity values in order determine if the conveyance of the medium along the transport path should be stopped due to the presence of metal in the media or a jam occurring within the medium transport path.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2016Date of Patent: December 11, 2018Assignee: KODAK ALARIS INC.Inventors: Bruce Link, John Fagan, Thomas Middleton, Daniel Phinney

Publication number: 20180205856Abstract: Systems and methods facilitate iteratively inspecting a high resolution image of a camera subassembly glass element, to determine whether dust is present, and cleaning of same. By examining the size, number, and location of the dust particles it can be determined whether the dust is likely to cause issues when the camera subassembly is integrated into a fully assembled document scanner. Other anomalies, contaminants, and defects which could affect camera image quality, such as scratches on the glass covering, can also be detected. Software may control the capturing of the high resolution images of the camera subassembly glass and can determine a fail state if the anomaly is above a predetermined threshold. The systems and method can be used as acceptance criteria of individual camera subassemblies from a manufacturer.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2018Publication date: July 19, 2018Applicant: Kodak Alaris Inc.Inventors: Robert Johnson, John Jamieson

Publication number: 20180174301Abstract: A system and method that performs iterative foreground detection and multi-object segmentation in an image is disclosed herein. A new background prior is introduced to improve the foreground segmentation results. Three complimentary methods detect and segment foregrounds containing multiple objects. The first method performs an iterative segmentation of the image to pull out the salient objects in the image. In a second method, a higher dimensional embedding of the image graph is used to estimate the saliency score and extract multiple salient objects. A third method uses a metric to automatically pick the number of eigenvectors to consider in an alternative method to iteratively compute the image saliency map. Experimental results show that these methods succeed in accurately extracting multiple foreground objects from an image.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2017Publication date: June 21, 2018Applicant: KODAK ALARIS, INC.Inventors: Alexander LOUI, David KLOOSTERMAN, Michal KUCER, Nathan CAHILL, David MESSINGER
