  • Patent number: 10150632
Abstract: A system and method of detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system is disclosed. One or more metal detectors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the medium being transported. Signals from the metal detectors are sent to a system processor, which analyzes the signals, and produces proximity, duration, and/or intensity values therefrom. One or more microphones may also be included which detect the sound created as the medium is being transported. The processor computes sound values from the microphone signals, and analyzes the computed sound values along with the proximity, duration, and/or intensity values in order determine if the conveyance of the medium along the transport path should be stopped due to the presence of metal in the media or a jam occurring within the medium transport path.

  • Publication number: 20180208420
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system are disclosed. One or more induction sensors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the transported media, with detection signals sent from the sensors to a system processing unit. An ultrasonic detector is employed in some embodiments to output another detection signal. One or more microphones may also be included, for detecting the sound created as the medium is being transported. The system processing unit analyzes various detection signals and analyzes computed sound values from the microphones, to determine the presence and location of metal in the media. A position jam detector may assist in determining jams of the media along the medium transport path.

  • Publication number: 20180205856
Abstract: Systems and methods facilitate iteratively inspecting a high resolution image of a camera subassembly glass element, to determine whether dust is present, and cleaning of same. By examining the size, number, and location of the dust particles it can be determined whether the dust is likely to cause issues when the camera subassembly is integrated into a fully assembled document scanner. Other anomalies, contaminants, and defects which could affect camera image quality, such as scratches on the glass covering, can also be detected. Software may control the capturing of the high resolution images of the camera subassembly glass and can determine a fail state if the anomaly is above a predetermined threshold. The systems and method can be used as acceptance criteria of individual camera subassemblies from a manufacturer.

  • Publication number: 20180174301
Abstract: A system and method that performs iterative foreground detection and multi-object segmentation in an image is disclosed herein. A new background prior is introduced to improve the foreground segmentation results. Three complimentary methods detect and segment foregrounds containing multiple objects. The first method performs an iterative segmentation of the image to pull out the salient objects in the image. In a second method, a higher dimensional embedding of the image graph is used to estimate the saliency score and extract multiple salient objects. A third method uses a metric to automatically pick the number of eigenvectors to consider in an alternative method to iteratively compute the image saliency map. Experimental results show that these methods succeed in accurately extracting multiple foreground objects from an image.

  • Patent number: 9981813
Abstract: A method of scanning documents and moving such documents along a path such that during scanning a method of improving the documents velocity and the documents image quality is disclosed. The method includes providing a plurality of documents in an input tray and transporting each document along the path from the input tray at a transport velocity past the scanner to obtain scanned image data. By monitoring and controlling the velocity profile of the transport system, the scanning system may provide higher image quality, reduce slippage, misfeeds and jams, and provide alerts to an operator in the even slippage, misfeeds, or jams do occur.

  • Publication number: 20180137349
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure include a method for extracting symbols from a digitized object. The method includes processing the word block against a dictionary. The method includes comparing the word block against a word in the dictionary, the comparison providing a confidence factor. The method includes outputting a prediction equal to the word when the confidence factor is greater than a predetermined threshold. The method includes evaluating properties of the word block when the confidence factor is less than the predetermined threshold. The method includes predicting a value of the word block based on the properties of the word block. The method further includes determining an error rate for the predicted value of the word block. The method includes outputting a value for the word block, the output equal to a calculated value corresponding to a value of the word block having the lowest error rate.
