Abstract: A communications system, with a network, is usable to transmit at least image data to at least one illuminating device. The illustrating device illustrates a printed image location in a printing machine. A network is provided for the control and/or monitoring of the printing machine. A network for the communication of data to be processed in a pre-printing stage is also provided in that pre-printing stage, which prepares that image data. These two networks are connected to the same signal line or transmission link or are each constructed identically, with respect to their data transmission properties. The communications system, with the network, can control or monitor a printing machine having a number of sections, with at least two of these sections having a section controlling device. These section controlling devices are connected to the network, and control or monitor their respective sections. The network has the same data transmission properties in each of these sections.

Abstract: A printing device, which is usable to produce printed products, is supplied with a material web of a predetermined length. The length of the required web is defined by the printed product to be produced. The material web is assembled from several partial webs, having defined lengths. The supply of these partial webs to the printing device is provided automatically with the use of a material management system. A control unit of this system determines the length for the partial webs that have been chosen for a certain production request. These partial webs are sent to the printing device in a certain sequence so that the last one of these partial webs to be used has the least web length of the several partial webs. The minimum length of the last partial web is determined by an end of the partial web finishing the production. This sequence is determined, at the earliest, after the cycle time has ended.

Abstract: A device is used for controlling an installation that is comprised of several units. A common control system, that is provided with a central data memory, in which current real values and/or set points are filed as process variables for several units, is allocated to several of these units. The data memory encompasses a storage area for the process variables. The data structure of this storage area can be configured even by using a set of data that describes the projected installation.

Abstract: An inking cylinder or a dampening cylinder or roller for a rotary printing press is provided with a rubber cover that is adhered to the body of the cylinder or roller. A device for applying the rubber cover to the roller body includes a support table that is pivotably supported.
