  • Patent number: 6379280
Abstract: Control system for an internal combustion engine, for setting a desired torque in response to operating conditions of the engine and controlling torque based on the set desired torque. A crank angle position sensor detects an engine rotational speed. An accelerator position sensor detects an accelerator position. A required torque is calculated based on results of detection by the crank angle position sensor and the accelerator position sensor. Further, the calculated required torque is smoothed. Then, the present value of the required torque calculated at the present time and the smoothed required torque are compared with each other. When it is determined that the engine is being accelerated, an acceleration assist amount is calculated based on a difference value between the present value of the required torque and the smoothed required torque. Then, the acceleration assist amount is added to the smoothed required torque, whereby the desired torque is set.

  • Patent number: 6379141
Abstract: An abnormal mold detector is provided that can previously detect the breakage of a mold tool with an ejector plate. A pressure sensor is attached to the ejector pin of a mold to detect the mold internal pressure. The operation status of the mold is detected by the sensor attached to the mold piece of the mold. An abnormality detector, formed of a CPU, processes the detected pressure signal and the mold working state indicating signal. The abnormality detector sets a reference value D exceeding a normal sticking resistance of the ejector pin. As a material is injected, the mold internal pressure increases during one cycle (A and B) in the molding step. After the molding process, the ejection process is carried out by the ejector pin during the value C. When a sticking resistance exceeding the value D is confirmed during the monitoring operation (FF), the abnormality detector decides that there may be the possibility that an abnormal state occurs in the mold tool.

  • Patent number: 6379282
Abstract: An electronic control unit ECU controls a shift thrust Ft applied to a variable width drive pulley through a control valve CV and makes the rotational speed Ne of the engine follow a target engine rotational speed Neo to vary the speed change ratio of a continuously variable transmission CVT. In this control, the shift thrust Ft is achieved as sum of a proportional term P and an integral term I, where the proportional term P is determined on the basis of the deviation DNe of the engine rotational speed Ne from the target engine rotational speed Neo, and the integral term I is determined as cumulative sum of the deviation. When the throttle of the engine is closed, the integral term is set larger than when the throttle is open.

  • Patent number: 6378160
Abstract: A wiper apparatus for use in a motor vehicle with a pivot extending from an interior side of a vehicle body toward the external and penetrating a pivot holder that is fixed integrally onto the vehicle body. The pivot is rotatable with respect to the pivot holder and further holds a wiper arm at its penetrating tip portion. An outer circumferential surface of the pivot has an engaging groove that is fitted with an elastic retainer ring to retain the pivot on the pivot holder. An upper side surface of the engaging groove is an inclined surface so that the retaining ring can get out of the engaging groove with the aid of the inclined groove side surface when the pivot is pressed downwardly. Thus, the pivot can be easily removed from the pivot holder for replacement or the like, and if a large shock load acts on the pivot, it is possible to prevent the shock load from reaching the entire wiper apparatus or the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 6378468
Abstract: In an engine operated machine, an engine and a generator formed integrally with each other are covered with a shroud and a fan cover to form a power-generating unit. A head cover of the engine is mounted to protrude from an upper surface of the shroud, and the head cover is resiliently supported on a carrying handle of a case with a rubber bushing positioned therebetween. When the carrying handle is lifted, the weight of the power-generating unit is supported directly by the carrying handle without being applied to the case. Therefore, it is unnecessary to specially reinforce the case, thereby enabling a reduction in weight, and also increasing the degree of freedom of the design such as the shape and material of the case. Thus, when the engine operated machine is transported using the carrying handle, the weight of the engine and the working device can be reliably supported.

  • Patent number: 6381527
Abstract: Controller is designed to control operation of a rear-wheel steering apparatus typically provided in a four-wheel steering vehicle, and is based on electronic circuitry. In the electronic circuitry, a target-steering-angle setting section sets a target steering angle of the rear wheels. Actual-steering-angle measurement section measures an actual steering angle of the rear wheels. On the basis of the target steering angle and actual steering angle, a steering-angle adjustment section generates a motor drive signal to control the rotation of the motor in such a manner that a difference or offset between the target steering angle and the actual steering angle becomes zero. On condition that the motor is in a predetermined driving state, a motor-deceleration-amount calculation section is activated to calculate an actual rotating speed of the motor on the basis of the actual steering angle of the rear wheels and compares the calculated actual rotating speed of the motor with a prestored reference rotation speed.

  • Patent number: 6378929
Abstract: By supporting a weight member in such a manner that it can be moved forward to a certain degree in the case of the car collision, the seeming inertial mass of the car body in the initial stage of the car collision is reduced to generate larger deceleration than the average deceleration in the car body. The weight member is butted against a movable part which can be moved back and forth with respect to the car body. As such, the inertial mass is applied to the movable part to thereby cause the movable part to generate negative car body deceleration (or acceleration) temporarily. The whole car body decelerates with the average deceleration as an integral unit, whereby not only a preferable car body deceleration waveform for reduction of the occupant deceleration is realized, but also, the occupant deceleration can be reduced to a great extent.

  • Patent number: 6378296
Abstract: A system for discriminating degradation of an exhaust purification system of an internal combustion engine having an adsorbent installed at a bypass exhaust gas passage branched from an exhaust pipe of the engine, which is opened by a switch-over valve at starting of the engine to introduce the exhaust gas such that the adsorbent adsorbs unburned HC in exhaust gas generated by the engine and is closed such that the adsorbent desorbs the adsorbed HC and the desorbed HC is thereafter recirculated at a position upstream of a catalyst. In the system, an inflow amount and outflow amount of HC flowing in and out of the adsorbent are determined based at least on the engine operating conditions and the detected concentration of HC. Then, the ratio therebetween is calculated and compared with a threshold value and if the ratio is less than the threshold value, the adsorbent is discriminated to be degraded, thereby enabling to improve the discrimination accurately.
