Patent number: 8601461Abstract: Control of an operation of a multimedia terminal by an application, for example, a game or interactive television module, using remote control input signal is provided. An application is downloaded (S1), input signals from remote control units (RC-1, RC-2, RC-N) are received (S3) at the multimedia terminal, a message, including a source indication indicating the remote control from which the input signal was received, is sent (S5) to the downloaded application. According to the downloaded application, the operation of the multimedia terminal is controlled (S6) based on the source indication. The message may be sent to the downloaded application by an application program interface-based module resident at the multimedia terminal. A disable signal to disable a key could be transmitted to one or more of the remote control devices, for example, to disable the key for a specified time or a specified turn of a user.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Assignee: Koninklijke Electronics N.V.Inventor: Alexander P. Patent number: 8497819Abstract: In an active matrix electroluminescent display, a plurality of rows of pixels are illuminated, defining at least two bands of rows separated by a non-illuminated band. The bands of rows of pixels scroll in the column direction over time, and at most 75% of the rows are illuminated at any point in time. This method is in essence a double bar scrolling method. By scrolling two bars, the required peak brightness is reduced as the effective overall duty cycle is increased. However, the period of illumination can still remain short, so that motion perception remains improved. The scrolling speed can be halved for the same frame rate or else the frame rate can be increased to reduce flicker.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2004Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Koninklijke Electronics N.V.Inventors: Jurgen J. Patent number: 7450749Abstract: The invention relates to an image processing method for displaying a processed image of a three dimensional (3-D) object using a two-dimensional display means and for interacting with the surface of the displayed 3-D object comprising the construction and display of at least two coupled views of the surface of the 3-D object, including a global 3-D view and a connected local 2-D view of the surface of said object on which local interactions are made. This method further comprises interactive navigation on the object surface in one of the two views and processing data in said view with automatic updating of corresponding data in the other coupled view. Application: Medical Imaging.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2002Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Electronics N.V.Inventors: Jean-Michel Rouet, Maxim Fradkin, Sherif Makram-Ebeid

Patent number: 7450612Abstract: Network streams and a method for encapsulating media packets having data therein into the network streams. The network streams includes a base layer stream and an enhancement layer stream. Base-layer media packets are encapsulated into the network packets of the base layer stream, wherein each network packet of the base layer stream includes one, and no more than one, corresponding base-layer media packet. Enhancement-layer media packets are encapsulated into the network packets of the enhancement layer stream, wherein a first portion and a second remaining portion of any enhancement-layer media packet may be respectively included in successive network packets of the enhancement layer stream in order to have each network packet of the enhancement layer stream filled to a constant number of bits that does not exceed a maximum number of bits. The media packets are, but not limited to, video packets or audio packets.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2003Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Electronics N.V.Inventors: Carles Ruiz Floriach, Yingwei Chen

Publication number: 20050265028Abstract: A backlight including a light guide (10) wherein light from one or more light sources (32) is constrained by total internal reflection and from which light may be output to provide backlighting for a display screen, and a light reservoir (34) for feeding said light guide with light. The light guide has an input surface (20) including incoupling elements (24) rising therefrom and extending into the light reservoir, the incoupling elements having at least three mutually non-coplanar sidewall sections (26) extending transversely from the input surface, each sidewall section covering a different part of the input surface. The light reservoir is arranged such that light passing through one area of the light reservoir is capable of entering the light guide through each of said sidewall sections.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2003Publication date: December 1, 2005Applicant: Koninklijke Electronics, N.V.Inventors: Tijsbert Creemers, Johannes Marra, Peter Duine

Patent number: 6574178Abstract: The invention relates to methods and devices for forming marks and lands by applying a radiation beam (32) to a recording surface (301) of an optical record carrier (30). Recording strategies are proposed for recording information at high recording speeds. An intermediate power level (P1, P2) is introduced in between the bottom power level (P0) and the write power level (Pw), its value being dependent on the length of the preceding land (151, 152, 153). A raised write power level (PR1, PR2) is also proposed, its value being dependent on the length of the mark to be recorded (241, 242, 243).Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: June 3, 2003Assignee: Koninklijke Electronics N.V.Inventors: Benno Tieke, Robert Woudenberg

Publication number: 20030066952Abstract: The contrast between solder balls and substrate of a Ball Grid Array (BGA) as visualized by a camera of a computer vision system is improved sufficiently to enable reliable recognition in the poor contrast situation when the balls are silver colored and the substrate background is white or light colored by illuminating the BGA with polarized light, and the camera viewing the light reflected from the BGA via a polarization filter oriented to not pass light reflected from the solder balls but to pass light reflected from the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2001Publication date: April 10, 2003Applicant: KONINKLIJKE ELECTRONICS N.V.Inventor: Michael Thomas Swab

Publication number: 20010038081Abstract: An optocoupler driver circuit comprises an optocoupler (OC) with a light-emitting device (D) and a photosensitive device (T). A current source (CS) supplies a current (Is) to both the light-emitting device (D) and an impedance (Z). The ratio of the current (Id) through the light-emitting device (D) and the resulting current (Ic) through the photosensitive device (T) decreases if the temperature increases. The voltage (Vd) across the light-emitting device (D) also decreases if the temperature increases. The decrease of the voltage (Vd) across the light-emitting device (D) causes the current (Iz) through the impedance (Z) to decrease. Consequently, the current (Id) through the light-emitting device (D) increases and counteracts the decreasing ratio.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2001Publication date: November 8, 2001Applicant: KONINKLIJKE ELECTRONICS N.
